Kerry the plagiarist?

By

Josh Gerstein of the New York Sun has uncovered another embarrassment for John F. Kerry: apparent plagiarism.

...11 passages in Senator Kerry's published writings that appear to have been taken from other works without attribution, though experts disagree about whether the copying should be considered plagiarism.

Six of the passages come from Mr. Kerry's 1997 book, "The New War: The Web of Crime That Threatens America's National Security." All bear some similarity to news accounts that preceded publication of the book.

The first JFK, of course, had his senior thesis at Harvard ghost—written for him, courtesy of his father's money and connections, and it later became a best—seller (Why England Slept), courtesy of a publicity and book—buying campaign paid for by his father. It was a first step toward a political career.

Plagiarism by a politician occasionally becomes a big deal, as for example when Senator Joe Biden lifted passages in a speech he delivered from a British MP, ending his fledgling campaign for President.

Kerry's use of unattributed passages lifted from news reports is not earth—shaking. But it is another indication of the character of the man. By this point it is clear that Kerry does not apply normal standards of truth when talking about his experiences.
