Happy birthday!

By

Reader Mike Murray kindly reminds us of a very important birthday today: The United States Marine Corps. He writes:

Since 10 Nov 1775 the Marines have paid the price of freedom. I want to wish all my brothers past and present happy birthday and a safe return. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE. Semper Fidelis. Michael Murray (formerly Sgt 1st Bn 5th Mar )

Speaking for myself, I have always held the Marines in awe. As an asthmatic child, I had no chance of meeting their extra—rigorous physical standards, and was unbdoubtedly lacking in many other respects. But that does not alter my utter state of admiration and gratitude for the bravery, rigor, excellence, and devotion to duty exemplified by the USMC. America would not be the wonderful country it is without the Marines' many battles on our behalf. Thank—you, and happy birthday.
