Excess baggage

By

In a totally unrelated and otherwise bipartisan election day editorial, the New York Times managed a gratuitous shot at the Bush administration's success in Afghanistan and the leadership of our new ally.  In urging everyone to "Vote, No Matter What", it just couldn't resist including the unnecessary words I've underlined:

If people can ride donkeys over mountains in Afghanistan to choose among the decidedly imperfect candidates they were offered last month in their first democratic election, we can stand in line and force election officials to make sure our vote is recorded.

Can anyone be surprised?
