The Dutch, spurred by the assasination of Pym Fortuyn, are beginning to toughen—up on the inflow of (mostly Muslim) immigrants and asylum—seekers, according to an AP story. Although the article supplies a number of alarming statistics, the most alarming of all — that a majority of "Dutch" (in the sense of residing in Holland) school children under the age of 14 are now Muslims — appears nowehere.

Not only have the ethnic Dutch (and most other Western European countries) allowed—in a flood of immigrants from Islamic countries, they have also stopped birthing children at anything close to a replacement rate. Since immigrant Muslims typically have a large number of children, which Euro—welfare policies reward handsomely with various per—child benefits, the transition to a majority—Muslim demographic reality is only a few decades away.

As Nigeria demonstrates very well, when Muslims gain a majority of the population in a region, calls for the imposition of Sharia law follow. While Malaysia and Indonesia are cited as counter—examples, both nations are officially Islamic societies, whose more laid—back traditions are not amenable to Sharia. For now. In both countries, active movements for the imposition of Sharia exist.

The immigrant peoples favoring Holland and Western Europe come mostly from Arab and Berber backgrounds, where Sharia law is not quite as alien as it is in Southeast Asia.

Holland may have awoken to the reality of a future as an Islamic state just in time. But to make the continuarion of a tolerant Western society more of a reality, it is time for the Dutch and other Euros to take to heart the first Biblical injunction: go forth and multiply.
