Don't take it personally, Hill!
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton should watch herself, when speaking in front of enthusiastic supporters. In such settings, she tends to lose some of her famous icy self—control, and reveal the Inner Hill: the scary—voiced monotone martinet, who sees political opponents as demons to be crushed, and who will remake human nature in the forthcoming paradise on earth, if only the dullards who vote can be persuaded to give her power.
Last night, speaking before a million—dollar fundraiser in Miami, she told the assembled masses that "I shouldn't take it personally. Because what (the Bush) administration was attempting to do was turn back the progress of the entire 20th century. They were not just after Bill Clinton — they wanted to undo Jimmy Carter, Lyndon Johnson, John Kennedy, Harry Truman, Franklin Roosevelt. They were on their way to Teddy Roosevelt. It was a bipartisan right—wing extreme agenda.'
Wow! Turn back the progress of the entire 20th Century? Take the vote away from women! Repeal the income tax!! No more vaccines, aviation, telecommunications, or automobiles.
Apparently, the well—heeled common folk in the audience ate it up. The Democrats are marching proudly toward the cliff, Dr. Dean or not.
