Decline and fall

By

Our friend and fellow—blogger Gary Larson (not the cartoonist) has performed a wonderful community service by writing a book review   calling Garrison Keillor, of the Prairie Home Companion public radio empire, exactly what he is: hate—filled. Gary took the time to read Keillor's latest book, ostensibly a 'love letter' to liberals.

Keillor makes me sad indeed. I was one of his original fans, back when he was a college student, and hosted a radio program of classical music on the then—University of Minnesota student—run station, KUOM. I am talking late 1950s and early 60s. This was long before NPR and the apparatus of liberal—controlled public broadcasting.

With fame and wealth flowing his way, Keillor has just gotten meaner, snider, and more reactionary. It is strange how success will do that to some people. In fact, though he claims to be full of love and compassion, his words betray him. He stands as a living monument to the decline of Minnesota and American liberalism.

I didn't leave Keillor; he left me.
