Congressional Inquiry, Anyone?

By

Now that Democrats have established the precedent of calling Presidential policy advisers for testimony before Commissions of Inquiry, how much enthusiasm do you suppose they will have for getting to the truth of American complicity in the worst genocide since Hitler?

The UK's Guardian reports today that the Clinton Administration was fully aware of the intended genocide in Rawanda, and chose to do nothing.

Of course, Clinton 'apologized' years later. But is that enough? Tell it to the survivors of the hundreds of thousands of victims. African victims. Unlike the Caucasian Kosovars, for whose 'protection from genocide' Clinton committed to United States to war.

Very clearly, if a Republican President had behaved as Clinton did, the accusations of racism would never end.

In practice, Congressional inquiries such as the current 9/11 Commission are a bad idea. But the Democrats will never cease to press for political advantage using such commissions until the tactics are used against them.

We're not holding our breath waiting for Orin Hatch or Arlen Specter to demand an inquiry into this shameful chapter of Clintonian complicity in a major crime against humanity. But we wish that the GOP would learn the lesson that turnabout is fair play.
