As already reported, CBS made a supplicatory visit  to the White House prior to the still—pending release of their internal investigation regarding Rathergate and the failure of honchos at CBS news to prevent the forgery from being widely reported as fact.

 

While part of this might be eating humble pie in recognition of their failure to bring down Bush, and in hopes of mending fences, the steps must also be seen in light of the Porter Goss memo to CIA employees cautioning them about going to the media to snipe at the President, as well the pending court cases against reporters regarding the Joe Wilson issue. Now that the MSM sees that they can no longer rely on insiders violating custom and rules regarding confidential issues, they will have to rely on traditional means of finding information—fair questioning and honorable investigating on their own.
