Calling Dan Rather
The AP carries a story of US contractor Thomas Hamill, who was kidnapped while he was securing a fuel convoy West of Baghdad. Mr. Hamill works for Kellogg, Brown, and Root, a subsidiary of (horrors!) Halliburton. According to the AP story, Mr. Hamill, who hails from Macon, Mississippi, is acquitting himself in an exemplary manner under life—threatening circumstances.
Someone should alert Dan Rather, and point out to him that it looks like those dreaded Halliburton contractors are not desperate, money grubbing, quivering bowls of Jello and life's losers he imagines them to be. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Thomas Hamill and his family in this time of crises; may he return safe and sound.
The article also points to a most obvious turn of events in the current battles with the Baathist—Socialists and Shia extremists. After a week of confronting and losing to Coalition forces, the terrorists are now reduced to the old tried and true tactic of taking innocent hostages. Stick a fork in 'em. They're done.
