Bush/Blair and FDR/Churchill

By

Distinguished British historian Sir Martin Gilbert writes in the U.K. Observer (the Sunday edition of the left wing Guardian) comparing the pairing Bush and Blair with that of Roosevelt in Churchill in WW II. It is almost shocking that a left wing paper would publish such a reasonable and complimentary opinion piece. We give them great credit.

Sir Martin makes many fine points about both pairs of wartime leaders. Especially valuable is his observation that we only know a fraction of the true historical record of decision—making and consultation between Bush and Blair. Just as decades were required to evaluate Churchill and FDR, so too must we wait to understand the true historical status of Bush and Blair.
