Anatomy of a smear

By

The Washington Post's Howard Kurtz details the case that Powerline blog and the Weekly Standard have made that the much touted "GOP Talking Points Memo" on the Schiavo law was not genuine. The Washington Post and AP which clearly left that impression in their earlier reports now deny they indicated it was, in fact, any such thing.

Powerline has made a reasonable case that it was a dirty trick. But whether it was or came from another source, this was a sloppy reporting job all around, and one with a  clear result——impugning the motives of the sponsors and supporters of the Act.
