A Hero's farewell
The world of sports often can be characterized as consisting of pampered, egotistical athletes who threaten coaches, have criminal histories, and abuse women, and take performance—enhancing drugs. The world of the military consists of disciplined men and women who believe in something other than self—gratification:their nation, our families.
Pat Tillman turned his back on a bright career at the Arizona Cardinals and joined the military after 9/11. His life gives lie to the absurd and insulting canard from liberal commentators that a poor economy has lead the dregs of society into the military and into Iraq and Afghanistan. His death while serving in Afghanistan has just been reported. He will be missed.
