A credit to his family

By

Patrick Daley, the only son of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, has enlisted in the United States Army, and will be reporting for duty in the Airborne Infantry between Christmas and the New Year's holiday. Following completing of his training, he will probably be deployed overseas in a war zone.

Patrick Daley recently received an MBA with honors from the very demanding University of Chicago Business School, known for its heavy emphasis on mathematical skills and quantitative analysis. That he has bypassed the lucrative potential such a degree offers, and decided to serve his country in war time speaks very highly of the values inculcated in him by his father, Mayor Daley.

Bruce Thompson has pointed out on this site what an extraordinary man Mayor Daley is. We congratulate him, and our prayers are with Patrick.

UPDATE:

The glittering eye blog has an interesting take on the politics of the matter, though it seems to ignore the operational conservatism of Mayor Daley, and many Chicago Democrats that Bruce Thompson pointed to.
