The Reasoning behind Impeachment: Republicans Evil, Democrats Noble
At the heart of the recent impeachment of President Trump is the unspoken but ever present position embraced by Democrats and the mainstream media that Republicans are evil and Democrats are noble.
As such, for the Left, any miniscule smidgen of potential wrongdoing by a Republican can warrant epic investigations and near-constant speculation by the media, while what appears on its face to be blatant corruption by Democrats must have a noble explanation and therefore need not be looked into at all.
This principle was first demonstrated with regard to the multi-year, multi-million-dollar Russia investigation that largely emanated from the Steele dossier, which was basically an uncorroborated piece of opposition research.
Most recently, the "Republicans are evil and Democrats are noble" ruse has been on full display with the impeachment of President Trump. To see how this plays out, one must look at the most basic facts surrounding impeachment and then examine how they are characterized by the left.
Fact #1: It is acceptable to withhold funds from a foreign government to force that government to take action that is beneficial to the United States. This is wholly supported by the Democrats' enthusiastic endorsement of Joe Biden's 2015 demand for a quid pro quo from the Ukrainian government. Biden openly stated that he was going to withhold funds (in the form of a billion dollars of loan guarantees) if Ukraine did not fire its prosecutor. In Biden's own words, "I looked at them and said: I'm leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you're not getting the money."
Fact #2: During a July 25, 2019 phone call with Ukrainian president Volodymr Zelensky, President Trump asked the Ukrainians to look into what Trump characterized as "horrible"-sounding behavior of Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. As stated in the transcript, Trump said, "There's a lot of talk about Biden's son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the attorney general would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution, so if you can look into it... It sounds horrible to me."
Fact #3: The Trump administration delayed the release of hundreds of millions of dollars in security assistance funds to Ukraine for several months, ultimately releasing them in September 2019. The funds were delayed at the time of the July 25 phone call, but the Ukrainians were unaware of the delay, and the funding was ultimately released.
It is an extraordinary act of hypocrisy on the part of the Democrats in Congress and the media to turn the above facts into the supposedly impeachable offense of "Abuse of Power," and it all rests on this: Republicans are evil, and Democrats are noble.
The left will assign evil intent to any action by Trump, as Satan incarnate, thus justifying the launching of an investigation to prove leftist allegations. So even though Joe Biden established that withholding funds from Ukraine in order to force Ukraine to do a particular task is an acceptable foreign policy tactic, the same tactic when used by Trump must be an impeachable offense.
Since Trump is evil, Trump's explicit reference to Biden's past behavior when asking Zelensky to do "whatever you can do" is an obvious attempt to have Ukraine investigate Joe Biden solely to damage Biden ahead of the 2020 elections. In the Democrat mind, there is simply no possibility that Trump was seeking to investigate potential past corruption by the Bidens since Joe Biden is of such noble character that no one could ever doubt his purity. Indeed, anyone even suggesting impropriety by Good Ole Joe is doing so only for personal gain.
Therefore, despite the fact that Joe Biden's son, Hunter, was earning tens of thousands of dollars per month to sit on the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma, and despite the fact that Hunter Biden had no expertise in Ukrainian energy, and despite the fact that Burisma is a known corrupt organization, and despite the fact that the prosecutor whom Biden sought to remove by withholding U.S. funds had been investigating Burisma — despite all these facts, Joe Biden's character is of such known purity that Trump could have never seriously believed that it was legitimate to request that Ukraine look into the Bidens' past behavior.
As such, Trump's actions must be purely based on a desire to smear the noble Bidens with false allegations ahead of the 2020 election.
The bottom line is that Trump saw the withholding of funds from Ukraine by Joe Biden and assumed evil motives. The Democrats saw the withholding of funds from Ukraine by Trump and assumed evil motives. Yet we are asked to interpret these two identical actions in two completely different ways. If you believe that Republicans are evil and Democrats are noble, then Trump withholding funds is an impeachable offense, and questioning Joe Biden's motivation for threatening the same action is tinfoil hat conspiracy nonsense.
The real danger here isn't that Democrats assume the worst of Republicans. Republicans are used to that, and, more and more, the electorate sees right through it. The Russia investigation is a good example.
No, the real danger here is the establishment of the unquestionable nobility of our Democrat and media betters. We are close to living in a country where a Democratic vice president in charge of Ukrainian policy can overtly demand the firing of a Ukrainian prosecutor who has investigated a company that pumped hundreds of thousands of dollars into the vice president's family, and no one is permitted to raise questions.
The good news is that the only politician in America who will not kowtow to the pressure to not accuse Biden of corruption happens to be the man whom Biden will run against if he wins the Democratic nomination.
