Understanding Obama's Ebola Psychosis
Many Americans believe that the Obama administration's schizophrenic behavior during the unfolding Ebola crisis is proof that Barack Obama is an incompetent chief executive.
They are wrong. Obama is a competent leader. That's the problem. He's good at implementing bad ideas. And he's a self-described citizen of the world whose first loyalty is not to the United States.
President Obama has been rolling out the red carpet for Ebola. His policy is not designed to keep the American people safe from the deadly airborne virus that is ravaging West Africa. Instead of treating foreign Ebola patients overseas, the president is now making plans to import them into the United States, a move that jeopardizes American lives for no reason other than the fulfillment of his ideological objectives.
It is to share the burden, a redistribution of both wealth and health, much like Obamacare, which itself is an instrument of socioeconomic leveling posing as a health care system.
To Obama, the U.S. is nothing special. America is just another country, or as he has put it, "I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism."
Obama is unburdened by traditional American values. Instead, his behavior is guided by his radical left-wing principles, repulsive as they may be to normal Americans. He is embarrassed by America.
Obama's neo-Marxist, multiculturalist, identity politics-infused worldview holds that America is an imperialistic, systemically racist, rotten, unjust country that has victimized other nations merely by being wealthy and powerful. America must be punished and deprived of its power to abuse brutal third-world dictators who fatten themselves while keeping their countries in desperate poverty, he believes.
This is why he can't stop apologizing for America. This is also why Obama wants to fundamentally transform – that is, destroy – America as we know it.
Obama romanticizes backward countries like the former colonies in Ebola-rich West Africa and views imposing a travel ban on their citizens as adding insult to the grievous injuries that the big, bad United States has inflicted on them.
But Obama is, in a sense, not playing with a full deck of cards. He suffers from what might be termed an ideologically driven psychosis. His behavior is bizarre. He is out of touch with reality. He won't support even the most basic commonsense Ebola precautions, and he won't acknowledge simple scientific facts. He just keeps on lecturing and hectoring Americans about how mean and selfish they are to want to keep Ebola out of the country.
Anyone who has followed Obama closely knows that his thinking is robotic and dogmatic, impervious to facts, logic, and rational arguments that go against his core beliefs.
Although Obama is a Saul Alinsky-inspired community agitator to the core, he does not accept one specific piece of the great small-c communist guru's advice. The president does not "accept the world as it is," at least not when it comes to Ebola. He adjusts his reality to conform to his principles.
Obama adamantly refuses to halt travel to the U.S. from Ebola-afflicted parts of the world, even from Ebola-devastated Liberia, home of Thomas Eric Duncan, who succumbed last month to the disease at a Texas hospital. Defying common sense, Obama says a "flat-out travel ban is not the way to go." Such a move wouldn't be fair to Africans, in his view.
And the absurd spectacle of sending the Airborne to West Africa to combat an airborne virus must give Obama great satisfaction. Leftists prefer to see our fighting men and women working as social workers instead of warriors.
Obama doesn't appear to want anyone quarantined unless the person is presenting Ebola symptoms even though quarantining potentially infectious patients has been practiced with solid outcomes ever since the invention of medical science.
Anyone who knows what measles or chicken pox is knows that some viruses are easily passed on to others. It's understood why patients with readily communicable diseases have to be isolated from the general public.
But Obama has no use for science that runs counter to the internal narrative playing in his head. He lies brazenly over and over again about the communicability of Ebola. He has said:
It is not airborne. The only way that a person can contract Ebola is by coming into direct contact with the bodily fluids of somebody who is showing symptoms.
In his weekly radio address on Oct. 18, Obama said:
Ebola is actually a difficult disease to catch. It's not transmitted through the air like the flu. You cannot get it from just riding on a plane or bus.
This is easily refuted nonsense.
We don't know as much as we would like about Ebola, but we do know that it is easily spread. Contrary to Obama's lies and lawyerly prevarications, Ebola is, as I wrote a week ago, an airborne pathogen. Sneezing or coughing can spread the virus, which can travel through the air within droplets.
My Capital Research Center co-worker, Dr. Steven J. Allen, is an expert on Ebola. Allen earned his Ph.D. in bio-defense from George Mason University’s College of Science in 2007. He told me:
We don’t how long it can last on surfaces or as droplets in the air ... You can get the disease from such a small number of viral particles that logic says you can get it from someone coughing in your vicinity.
Research dating back to 2010 from Great Britain's Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) shows that the Zaire strain of Ebola can survive on samples on glass at low temperatures for up to 50 days. All an infected person would have to do is sneeze near a lunch room refrigerator to put an entire office at risk. The pathogen can survive on dry surfaces such as tables and doorknobs for hours. In moisture it can live even longer.
So whom are Americans to take cues from when it comes to Ebola? If it's a day ending in a "y," Obama is telling lies. This is the man who said there is "not even a smidgen of corruption" at the IRS, "if you like your health care plan, you can keep it," “transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency,” and “we revealed to the American people exactly what we understood at the time” about the Benghazi saga.
Should we be soothed by the easy prose of the glib, cocky, know-it-all community organizer who celebrates "Cinco de Quatro" and who thinks "Austrian" is a language, or should we pay more attention to the actions of prudent medical professionals dressed up in heavy hazmat suits that look like astronaut gear?
Obama's stance on Ebola looks even more untethered from reality in light of recent deaths of medical personnel. Trained professionals intimately acquainted with proper medical protocols still manage to get themselves killed when working near Ebola patients. Hazmat gear is not foolproof. Five co-authors of a new Ebola study came down with the disease and perished before it was published.
The group that Ebola exhibitionist Kaci Hickox volunteers for, Doctors Without Borders, has had 24 of its workers infected with Ebola, and 13 have died from it, Charles C. Johnson reports at GotNews.com.
Incidentally, media darling Hickox, a nurse who is publicly whining about the prospect of being quarantined against her will for 21 days after arriving in the U.S. from Africa a few days ago, isn't just a health care worker who treats Ebola patients.
Johnson discovered that Hickox, who has yet to test positive for the virus, is an Obama administration employee, a registered Democrat, and a left-wing activist. She happens to work for the worse than useless Centers for Disease Control (CDC), a federal agency that is strongly resisting travel bans and quarantines.
Parts of Obama's own administration are beginning to throw the president under the bus for his nutty public pronouncements. The CDC now acknowledges that Ebola can spread through the air in droplets, and Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has ordered troops returning from Ebola duty in Africa to submit to a 21-day quarantine.
Normal, rational Americans have no hope of getting Obama to change his mind, no matter how many times they call the White House to register their concern. They know that you can't reason with a crazy person.
