One of the mainstream media’s most potent tools is silence. Commanding the attention of a majority of American voters, what they do not say may be as damaging to a political campaign as what they do say.  The “Run Ben Run!” crusade to convince famed neurosurgeon, Dr. Ben Carson to run for president in 2016, launched by John Phillip Sousa IV, (yes, the March King’s great grandson), is receiving little or no acknowledgement from the American media, including Fox News.  Sousa’s internet campaign is well financed and represented in all fifty U.S. states, yet the media continue to ignore the fact that Carson is winning, or coming in a close second, in straw poll after straw poll across America. Indeed, The Daily Caller reports that Carson can win even in the blue state of Colorado.  

Moreover, the Washington Times, hardly an MSM outlet, recently reported this: “Dr. Ben Carson had a heartland victory with a “whopping” 62 percent of the vote in a presidential straw poll conducted at the Polk County Republican Party dinner at Des Moines in the bellwether state of Iowa.  The political event drew attendees from as far away as Minneapolis who were anxious to yell ‘Run, Ben, Run’ and witness the good doctor’s stirring speech.”  Of course, the MSM were all over this breaking news story—not!  More silence from the news editors.

Who can forget the momentous National Prayer Breakfast last year where Dr. Carson indicted the politically correct policies of the Democrat Senate and the Obama regime with the president sitting a few feet away and staring daggers at the speaker?

One of those stilettos may have been named Lois Lerner.  The then-62-year-old neurosurgeon had never in his life been audited by the IRS; however, just a few months after his intrepid censure of many of Obama’s policies, the IRS asked to investigate his real estate holdings.  Finding nothing irregular there, the agency expanded the audit to an entire year; still nothing.  Then they investigated another year; squeaky clean.  After digging through yet another year, the IRS finally gave up on Carson, but they continued harassing his family by probing into various charitable organizations managed by his children. 

Speaking to Newsmax TV, Dr. Carson described the IRS fiasco: “You know, we live in a Gestapo age, people don’t realize it. But, what I say is the Congress has to, at some point, step up to the plate.  The reason we have divided government is if one branch of the government gets out of control, starts thinking they’re too big for their britches, you need to be able to have control.”  Once more, the only place this travesty was reported was in some conservative news outlets.  The MSM remained silent.

On the conservative side of the blogosphere, a plethora of websites, Facebook pages, and Twitter accounts are erupting like popping corn, all urging Dr. Carson into the political fray. Indeed, after Dr. Carson’s landmark speech, the legendary Wall Street Journal editorial staff eschewed political correctness by boldly endorsing Dr. Carson for president.  Conservative pundit Wild Bill for America expounds a poignant plea to Dr. Carson, ending with a resounding, Run Ben Run! Broadening his disapproval of government overreach in the current healthcare stratagem, Dr. Carson revealed his concept that a numbered personal health savings account (HSA) be awarded to every legal American citizen at birth.  Anyone can make deposits into this interest-bearing account, including parents, grandparents, and the individual owner.  The beauty of the HSA is that it is independent of governmental meddling and insurance companies' profit taking.  How refreshing is that? Furthermore, the HSA may be bequeathed to progeny upon the death of the owner.   When asked how he would approach the invasive tentacles of the behemoth national (un)affordable healthcare act dubbed Obamacare, Dr. Carson with twinkling eyes replied simply, "Why, I would rewrite the law." Surely, Dr. Carson’s rewritten law would fill somewhat less than the 33,000 pages of Obamacare.  Perhaps a dozen pages?

Then, as if to add insult to injury, Dr. Carson suggested the IRS managed, corrupt national tax structure be scrapped in favor of a flat tax plan based on the biblically instructed tithe.  Such fiscal apostasy is repulsive to the progressive Keyensian economic mindset.   How dare he!  He dares because, as a practicing Seventh-day Adventist, Dr. Carson has tithed ten percent his entire adult life; therefore, he understands the bounty that tithing can bring.

In a 2013 American Thinker piece, this writer suggested the Left would be “Circling the Wagons” against Dr. Ben Carson.  So far, the MSM leftists have relied upon their silence as sufficient to quell Dr. Carson’s surge in the straw polls and national name recognition.   They have failed to calculate the impact of the blogosphere crusades mounted by the likes of Sousa, Wild Bill for America, and others.  If the Left is to derail this runaway train, it must do more than remain silent.  In the coming months expect a political assassination initiative against Dr. Carson that will cause ‘Palinization’ and the Herman Cain political assassination to pale.
 In the AT piece mentioned above, this writer quoted Sean Hannity who asked this direct question about Dr. Carson’s political ambition. Ben flashed his disarming smile and answered, “I have always said that for me to enter politics, God would have to lift me by my collar and drop me into it.” Many wonder if that divine act has already occurred.
