America's Number One Vote Suppressor?
President Obama!
When he was first running for statewide office in Illinois, state Sen. Barack Obama said he could not support marriage for same-sex couples because “I am a Christian.” When, just four years later, in 2008, he was asked about this issue at Rev. Rick Warren’s Civic Forum, then-presidential candidate Barack Obama said marriage was between one man and one woman and that “God is in the mix.”
If you like your God, you can keep Him. As for President Barack Obama, he has moved on. He now claims he has “evolved” and the lightning speed of his evolution on this issue would stun even the most ardent defenders of Darwinian materialism. In just six years, President Obama has gone from opposition to counterfeit marriage to full-throated endorsement of it.
Might it just be the result of the “feedback” he is getting at all those Hollywood fundraisers? The president’s party is in deep trouble this election cycle, reports even such reliably liberal news outlets at the New York Times and the Washington Post.
The president and his fellow progressives are also trying this campaign season to make “voter suppression” an election issue. They charge that when their GOP rivals want an ID card for voting -- something the NAACP requires for attendance at its own conventions -- that those GOPers are trying to limit the franchise of minority voters.
It’s an odd charge to make, historically. Every constitutional amendment and every voting rights act passed by Congress for a century was pushed by Republicans and opposed by Democrats. Every politician who worked for one hundred years to limit Black voters’ access to the polls was a Democrat. For thirty years Republicans in Congress passed anti-lynch laws in the U.S. House of Representatives. This was to prevent Black voters from being intimidated into forfeiting their right to vote. But every year, for thirty years, those desperately needed anti-lynch laws were killed -- by Democrats -- in the U.S. Senate.
So now, by “evolving” on the marriage issue, President Barack Obama has become the Number One vote suppressor in U.S. history. How ironic!
How is this so? More than 41,000,000 votes have been cast by Americans in support of natural marriage over the last decade. In state after state -- and especially in the states of the Old South -- it was Black voters who provided the margin of victory for these marriage protection measures. Even when natural marriage was overturned at the ballot box, as it was in Maryland in 2012, fifty-two percent of Black voters in the Free State backed true marriage.
Now, with President Obama’s evolution on the marriage issue moving at warp speed, the votes of millions of minority voters are being suppressed.
Even more astonishing is President Obama’s sudden discovery that the Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause will force all fifty states to overturn their marriage laws and accommodate counterfeit marriages. Mr. Obama likes to tell us he was a Constitutional Law professor twenty years ago, prior to entering politics. And he only now discovers the meaning of the Fourteenth Amendment’s equal protection?
As we are seeing in Houston, and as lawyer Ted Olson confirms, the administration will use anti-discrimination laws to silence all opposition by Americans to these same-sex ceremonies. Compelled speech will be the order of the day.
Freedom of press, religion, assembly, and petition are all threatened by this radical regime. In Maryland in 2012, a Black Ph.D. was fired for signing a pro-marriage petition. And she was a university diversity officer!
The pink panzers of political correctness are steamrolling all our rights. It’s time to push back.
