The Campaign Begins
All the "Aw, shucks, I really haven't made a decision about running" from the Hillary Clinton stealth campaign had a rude shock on New Year's Day when Michael Moore, the famous (for no particular reason) film director and Jabba-the-Hut impersonator, penned a guest editorial in the Democrat Party's version of the old Soviet era daily Pravda, or as it is more commonly known, the New York Times.
In reading this sterling example of "all the news that's fit to print", the so-called "money quote" is most likely the following:
"I believe Obamacare's rocky start -- clueless planning, a lousy website, insurance companies raising rates, and the president's telling people they could keep their coverage when, in fact, not all could -- is a result of one fatal flaw: The Affordable Care Act is a pro-insurance-industry plan implemented by a president who knew in his heart that a single-payer, Medicare-for-all model was the true way to go. When right-wing critics "expose" the fact that President Obama endorsed a single-payer system before 2004, they're actually telling the truth."
After eight more paragraphs of anecdotes touting the advantages of a single-payer system (which has obviously worked so well in Great Britain and Canada) when compared to ObamaCare, Mr. Moore lets the real reason for writing this screed pop forth for all to see. His final words in this guest editorial are:
"So let's get started. Obamacare can't be fixed by its namesake. It's up to us to make it happen."
Apparently, Mr. Moore is saying that nothing can be done until Obama is replaced as president, and the American people will just have to continue suffering under yet another "substandard" health insurance scam, run by another "lemon" and "rogue" insurer (in this case the Federal Government). But what happens when Obama's lease on the White House finally runs out? Who does Moore see as the white knight coming to the rescue? I'm sure he has someone with enormous reserves of knowledge in the health care and health insurance fields, right? Wait, who do we know that also had an eponymous health care plan? Ah yes! Hillarycare! Who else could he have in mind except the loving spouse of Bill Clinton?
But is the Times endorsing Hillary? Of course not.
So while Moore sees single payer as a sort of supercharged ObamaCare, eliminating all its flaws and weaknesses, Betsy McCaughey, the former lieutenant governor of New York State was busy drafting an examination of the unintended side effects of ObamaCare that Mr. Moore blatantly failed to mention. Ms. McCaughey's article was published the very next day at Accuracy in Media, and in it she reveals just how damaging this so-called Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is to one identifiable segment of the population -- seniors.
Ms. McCaughey, who has a reputation as something of a healthcare policy wonk, points out:
On Oct. 1, 2012 the Obama administration started awarding bonus points to hospitals that spend the least on elderly patients. It will result in fewer knee replacements, hip replacements, angioplasty, bypass surgery and cataract operations.
These are the five procedures that have transformed aging for older Americans. They used to languish in wheelchairs and nursing homes due to arthritis, cataracts and heart disease. Now they lead active lives.
But the Obama administration is undoing that progress. By cutting $716 billion from future Medicare funding over the next decade and rewarding the hospitals that spend the least on seniors, the Obama health law will make these procedures hard to get and less safe.
It's nearly impossible for me to view this objectively. If it wasn't for angioplasty surgery and bypass surgery, I would not be writing this column. I would be dead. If not for cataract surgery, I would not be able to read anyone else's columns for the same reasons.
That's three out of the five things that former Lieutenant Governor McCaughey lists as endangered in terms of treating seniors under ObamaCare. It means that I'm batting .600, and as each day passes, I am becoming more aware of the other two surgeries creeping up on me.
But Mr. Moore insists that supercharging ObamaCare will be even better! Of course it will never affect a multi-millionaire like himself. No, this "reduction of waste and abuse" will only apply to those of us that the progressives already consider waste. The peasants, the drones, the plebes, the proletariat, the commoners, the bourgeoisie, the hoi polloi, the Joe-the-Plumbers, the Everyman, the blue-collar workers who built this nation and who have funded their relatively lavish lifestyles, these are the ones who will suffer.
Naturally, as in every issue of life, there will be winners and losers. But should ObamaCare result in reduced and substandard care for seniors, we have already been informed of at least one person who will be thrilled to see all those old people die off, and die off in extreme pain as a bonus. Who, you ask? Why, Oprah Winfrey, of course. She said that all the old white people in America have to die off to usher in a racial heaven on earth. She supported Obama and Obamacare, didn't she? Of course so did the AARP and the AMA.
Maybe we should find a way to support Oprah, AARP, the AMA, Democrats and the bureaucrats who have been so busy "helping" the elderly and help them back, just as much and just as relentlessly.
