A Post-Obama World
Some time back I caught sight of a photo of our "Philosopher-King-in-Training" holding in his effeminate hand a copy of Fareed Zakaria's The Post-American World, and took no little satisfaction in articulating to others that the title was more wishful thinking than scholarship. It should be no surprise that this administration has been united in its vision of a multi-polar world; and as such, has utilized its considerable influence in a singular effort to reduce America's gravitas through diminishing its footprint as a superpower on the stage of evolving political events.
Obama and the Progressives would never quite deny such a charge outright, even though the articulation of this Globalist ideology is incongruent with his position as America's highest officer -- a man sworn to honor our nation's prestige and interests. Nevertheless, during the 2012 presidential campaign, Zakaria himself sang the praises of "The Man Who Would Be Destiny:"
This is a new world, very different from the America-centric one we got used to over the last generation. Obama has succeeded in preserving and even enhancing U.S. influence in this world precisely because he has recognized these new forces at work. He has traveled to the emerging nations and spoken admiringly of their rise. He replaced the old Western club and made the Group of 20 the central decision-making forum for global economic affairs. By emphasizing multilateral organizations, alliance structures and international legitimacy, he got results.... It was Chinese and Russian cooperation that produced tougher sanctions against Iran.
With all respect to Zakaria's foreign policy assessment, this "new world" has taken on many of those same malevolent characteristics that eventually launched the twentieth century into its bloody wars. All around us we see the clash of irreconcilable ideologies instead of that rose-colored scenario of shared communitarian interests so lionized by Post-Constitutionalists -- the more honest and authentic term for the Global Progressive Mind. Indeed, it is no secret now that Eric Holder's DOJ is in lockstep with a legion of shrill voices from the Academic arena who believe that extranational treaties and concerns should hold precedence over our own arcane founding document authored by vilified white men. But if one is to serve the cause of the Progressive faith, only revolutionary men of flint-like countenance can set aright the planet under the mantle of Promethean science and managed equality. Barack Obama believes that he is one of those visionaries.
However, this Millennialist dream of Earthly political equality cannot take root and flourish so long as the neighborhood bully of the Western world so jealously guards his own mercenary privilege. In the long drawn-out process of getting his mind right for utopia, this liberty-obsessed lout must be made to see that the earth's fraternity of tribes have an a priori claim on not only his pocketbook, but on his moral/political allegiance. Unfortunately, we are a stiff-necked lot; and in inheriting a "narrow and parochial" consciousness, Americans have been resistant to the liberal's hollow catechism. In the absence, therefore, of such tender feelings, we must be sternly herded to the postmodern epiphany that Obama's policy of succoring Islamicists and tyrants is ultimately consistent with our own national self-preservation as "good and accommodating global brethren."
And can it be doubted that in his zealousness for our "national interests," Obama has done everything in his power to bind the American Samson who threatens the planet with imperial designs? In answering Zakaria's claim that he is "preserving and even enhancing U.S. influence in the world," it is nonetheless abundantly clear that our Post-American leader has completely obliterated any trepidation that a foreign nation state might have in challenging American interests abroad. Machiavelli's prudent first rule of realpolitik that "It's good to be loved, but far better to be feared" has gone hitherto unheeded -- leaving the United States in the rather unenviable position of being neither loved nor feared. And seriously: who could rightfully blame the world for their distrust and disgust at what we have become? When the man who now holds the once- hallowed position of primer inter pares of the Free World travels to foreign capitals of socialistic decrepitude and authoritarian despair (while engaging in maudlin displays of self-flagellation -- portraying himself as a Third World Simpatico), he laughably exudes the fatal stench of weakness and toothless decline. And to be sure, nothing arouses the salivation of hard men -- men who are not given to taking "no" for an answer -- than beholding our melodramatic Nobel Prize recipient assuming the apologetic role of political catamite for the sins of a declining West.
As for China and Russia bringing Iran's regime of theocratic totalism to heel with the threat of sanctions; well, you can readily see how that has all shaken out. Not only is Iran on the very doorstep of extortionate nuclear ascendancy, but Obama and the Great Head Bobbing courtesans of appeasement are falling over themselves in a stampede to normalize diplomatic relations with a swirling nest of two-step vipers. Very soon, American domestic flights may be touching down in Tehran as an ebony shroud is unfurled over the Straits of Hormuz. And in the meantime, our only true friend in the region is being unceremoniously maneuvered into a fetal position to await his assumed annihilation. These are the virtues of the Progressive foreign policy: rancid fruit of the malignant Obama worldview set in stunning relief.
As a well-indoctrinated Marxian whose mind has never entertained an original thought since he was groomed to be the Red Diaper Baby par excellence by unabashed Communists, Obama has emerged -- after flying under the radar his entire life -- as the first chief of state in our storied history who has actively sought to diminish a legacy that he has sworn an oath to protect. That he has wandered from his charge and mingled faithlessness with unalloyed treason will be the mission of future men who conduct political post-mortems and pronounce judgments as to how an ideological termite could have, with the complicit assent of fellow-travelling vermin, risen to such heights virtually undetected. It will take a writer with the perceptive qualities of a Whittaker Chambers to pen such a book.
Be that as it may, I force myself to turn to happier thoughts as I meditate on what a Post-Obama America can look like, and whether the resulting economic, social, and political malaise that his stain on American prestige and power can be eradicated: like shocking an algae-laden swimming pool to clarity with a massive burst of chlorine. With an earnest reawakening, it is certain that we can wind back the tentacles that the Progressive regime has driven autocratically into the executive branch. And further, we can mend the political and diplomatic fences that have been either burnt down or allowed to decay in the current uncertain atmosphere of ideological contempt and treasonous neglect. But the question in my head still reverberates: Does America still retain within the marrow of its collective will the moral vision and fortitude to return again to the First Principles of its prudent founding?
It is heartening that, as of late, a considerable infusion of not-so-ancient wisdom has buttressed a reawakened citizenry to the salutary virtues of limited government and negative liberty. Indeed, the now readily discernible hum that even the MSM can no longer ignore is evidence of a startling realization that Obama's wholesale mutation of Executive Branch prerogative into velvet tyranny has duly compromised the internal balanced mechanics designed within our republic. But what is infinitely more disturbing is how large a number of drones swell the ranks of Progressive servitude -- a sizeable phalanx consisting of our friends and neighbors who have bitten deeply into the poison apple and pronounced it Good. In closing their eyes in blissful ignorance to the constitutional and cultural demolition going on around them and becoming in the bargain energetic tools of the Collective, they have willingly assented to the grim edict of the Hive as payment for their silent heedlessness: affectionately trading their sacred birthrights for scraps conjured from an EBT card.
Whether the people's love of liberty has been stillborn or abandoned through disuse, the time will soon be upon us when the paper-mache foundations undergirding Obama's Pillars of Progressivism come crashing down. And make no mistake; by its very nature Socialism is unsustainable except as a strutting ideological tapeworm that sickens its host unto death. It cannot long survive on its own steam because its core assumptions are artificially imposed and counter to every free and noble instinct that attends the healthy human imagination. To the Patriot who viscerally understands the ramifications of Fabian Socialist rot on our national character, he should also discern the cryptic meaning of the Nietzschean epigram as applied to an irrational faith in Marxian collectives: "That which is falling should be pushed."
A Post-Obama World -- a Post-Socialist World will be one of immense pain in the short term: as the soured nipple is ripped from our collective teeth and we learn again to stand and walk unaided. Shall we not again begin to accept the risks of existence in the cold Hyperborean air of liberty while slowly germinating within ourselves the virtues of men and women who live free, know how to choose the sweet from the sour, despise the political flim-flam, know a genuine friend from a dissembling villain, and have the courage to ride out of town on a rail those who would dare tell us otherwise?
