Washington Fences: Metaphor and Reality
While the fences keeping World War II vets out of the WWII Memorial, and Vietnam War vets out of the Vietnam Memorial -- as well as every other patriotic memorial and attraction emblematic of America -- are a very real tactic of deprivation by the Obama administration, the tactic also stands as a towering metaphor.
The wall being erected.
In the last few days, some, echoing Ronald Reagan's words in Berlin, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" stood outside the WWII Memorial saying, "Mr. Obama, tear down this wall." This is more than humor or Alinsky-type ridicule of the president, this is a very real cry of the human heart.
The walls which have sprouted up are symptomatic not of legislative impasse on Capitol Hill. These walls which stand between Washington and Americans are ObamaCare.
Ugly barriers of sandbags and steel meant to block WWII

The massive, monstrous law, rammed through Congress in 2009 and 2010, now stands as a very real, looming threat. In the same way President Obama has cut off Americans visiting Washington D.C. from everything in Washington that they admire and should rightfully have access to, ObamaCare is slowly but surely cutting off Americans from freedom of choice when it comes to healthcare and religious freedom.
Pundits and politicians yammer on and on about how good this is for the country, but they speak from ideology induced ignorance, not knowledge or prescience.
Republicans are not holding the country hostage. On the contrary, President Obama is holding that which is most dear to Americans hostage, cutting Americans off from Washington's sublime Americana, depriving us of that which we love in order to protect that which he loves: ObamaCare.
President Obama has taken to referring to the Patient Affordable Care Act as "ObamaCare." Has any President ever been so brazenly self-aggrandizing? Maybe some have in private, but in public? The proud narcissistic displays are deeply troubling.
The majority of Americans view ObamaCare as a threat, shrinking our religious freedom, our health care options and access, and unnecessarily encumbering our economy with a concrete overcoat of massive regulations.
By shutting down the most treasured symbols of our Republic, President Obama is displaying the same natural instincts which first conceived his signature accomplishment, his namesake, ObamaCare. His disdain for American religious liberty, effectively shutting religious liberty down across this nation, should have portended his actions this week, shutting down our national monuments to American liberty, to American self-sacrifice, to American ingenuity and American Heroes, and even to America the beautiful.
Monuments to America's greatness closed from sea to shining sea.

He has said quite firmly, "I will not negotiate," as if this were a statement of strength by a beleaguered leader. On the contrary: These are the words of a defiant leader ensconced in the trappings of power.
ObamaCare is the wall which stands around the best of Washington and America, holding our treasures hostage. He is accomplishing symbolically with Park Police fences what he hopes to achieve in reality through his controversial ObamaCare.
