Whether by Gun or Abortion, Murder Is Murder - Period

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) plans to introduce (or has already introduced) gun-control legislation in the 113th Congress, ostensibly to protect the lives of children, and to curb mass murders, like the one that occurred in Newtown, CT.  At the same time, Feinstein is very pro-choice and supports taxpayer funding for abortions.  She opposes bans on partial-birth abortion.  She has spoken about the constitutional right to an abortion and, in 2003, on the Senate floor, spoke in support of Roe v Wade.  She, in 2005, opposed the Unborn Victims of Violence Act.

The above paragraph alone demonstrates Senator Feinstein's hypocrisy when it comes to protecting the lives of children.  But let's go farther.  Feinstein has, in her public life, said that she is Jewish.  Then Feinstein said, before running for the Senate, that she is not Jewish.  So it seems that Feinstein's religion could best be described as feminism or liberalism.  In the words of "Church Lady" on SNL, "How conveeenient!"  The Jewish faith does not permit abortions unless the health of the mother is threatened (in other words, not on demand).  Feinstein decided that she was not Jewish when the faith's tenets interfered with her personal beliefs.

There were, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), in 2009 11,493 people murdered with guns.  But Senator Feinstein seemed to overlook the fact that, in 2008, 1.21 million abortions were performed.  Just so you know, the CDC says that in 1998 (the last year for which estimates were made), over 23 percent of legally induced abortions were performed in California.  By the way, Feinstein was elected to the U.S. Senate from California in 1992.  Abortion and election coincidence?  Your call.

Planned Parenthood (PP) announced that, in 2011 alone, it performed 333,964 abortions.  PP said that was a record year for the organization.  PP performed, between 2009 and 2011, almost 1 million abortions.  Fully 92 percent of pregnant women who seek help from PP get an abortion.  PP likes to talk about its "other" services, but records indicate that other services are declining: abortions are up while contraception services are down.  Since 2009, contraceptive services have dropped by 12 percent.  Similarly, cancer screening and prevention services have dropped by 29 percent.  Prenatal care and adoption referrals accounted for only 7 percent and 0.6 percent of their other services.  For perspective, PP performed 145 abortions for each adoption referral.

For further perspective, fully 45 percent of PP's annual revenue is provided by taxpayer dollars.  PP received, in FY2011, government grants, contracts, and Medicaid reimbursements of $542 million in taxpayer funding.  Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA List, said:

"Planned Parenthood has spent much of the last few years demanding that taxpayers add millions more to their coffers, citing their non-profit status and so-called focus on women's health.  What have we received for our money?  While government subsidies to Planned Parenthood have reached an all time high, so too has the number of lives ended by this profit-driven abortion business.  Destroying nearly one million children in three years is not health care and does not reflect a concern for vulnerable women and girls.  As Planned Parenthood's funding goes up, abortions increase and real health services for women go down.

"As if these numbers weren't already horrifying, Planned Parenthood has upped the ante even further by mandating that all affiliates provide abortions beginning this year.  Americans are sick and tired of underwriting the nation's largest abortion business.  We call on Congress to immediately investigate and defund Planned Parenthood."

PP, in FY2011, reported $87.4 million in revenue that exceeded expenses.  It also has in excess of $1.2 billion in net assets.  Americans United for Life spokeswoman Charmaine Yoest said:

Planned Parenthood's story in 2013 reveals an abortion-centered business model.  The nation's largest abortion provider continues to make ever-more money from the suffering of women and girls as the leader of Big Abortion.

So, Senator Feinstein, you will introduce a bill designed to outlaw "the sale, the transfer, the importation and the possession of assault weapons."  Yet nowhere can I find a bill that you've introduced defunding PP, or even reducing its abortion activities.  Can I not find the bill because you failed to introduce it?  You are, after all, trying to protect the lives of children, regardless of how they are murdered.

Or is your hypocrisy again showing?
