Romney's Loss and Geopolitics

After Midway, Japan's fate was sealed, as was Germany's after Stalingrad.

Will Romney's defeat seal America's fate?  Benghazigate provides a clue that provides a possible answer, in a troubling fashion, to that question, and to a number of other serious questions.

The National Command Authority knew that an American ambassador was under siege, yet:

General Ham told Chaffetz that the forces were available, but that no order to use them was given. Defense Secretary Panetta had claimed that the refusal to use force had come from him, General Dempsey and General Ham.

If America will not rescue its embattled ambassador, why should Japan believe that America will come to its aid in any conflict with China over the Senkaku Islands?  If Japan believes that America will not come to its aid in any conflict with China over the Senkaku Islands, why should Japan not reconsider constitutional prohibitions against developing a robust military -- including the nuclearization of its weaponry?  If Japan should take that momentous step, what will stop China from taking pre-emptive steps?  America?  Not bloody likely!

If America will not rescue its embattled ambassador, why should the Philippines believe that America will come to its aid in any conflict with China over the Spratly Islands?  If the Philippines believe that America will not come to its aid in any conflict with China over the Spratly Islands, what are its options?  For sure, any option it chooses will not inure to America's benefit.

If America will not rescue its embattled ambassador, why should Vietnam believe that America will come to its aid in any conflict with China over the Paracel Islands?  If Vietnam believes that America will not come to its aid in any conflict with China over the Paracel Islands, what are its options?  As with the Philippines, any option it chooses will not inure to America's benefit.

Similar arguments can easily be constructed with respect to Sino-Taiwan conflicts, Sino-South Korea conflicts, Sino-India conflicts, India-Pakistan conflicts, South Korea-North Korea conflicts, and every other East Asia conflict, and they, and the above arguments, portend fearful times with respect to Sino-American relations under Team Obama -- dangers that would not likely occur under a Team Romney.

More questions:

If America will not rescue its embattled ambassador, why should Israel believe that America will come to its aid in any conflict with Iran over the latter's nuclear ambitions?  And, why should Israel believe that America will come to its aid in any conflict with any of its neighbors over anything?  What, then, will Israel do?

Does anyone seriously believe that Team Obama will take military actions to prevent Iran's acquiring nuclear weapons?  Does anyone seriously believe that Team Obama will take any other serious actions to prevent Iran's acquiring nuclear weapons?

If Israel fails to stop Iran's acquiring nuclear weapons, will Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt decide to nuclearize their weaponry?  What then?

As Jay Leno would say, "I could go on all night."

So, will Romney's defeat seal America's fate?  What now will stem China's ascendency?  What now will stem Putin's ambitions?  What now will stop militant Islamism?

What now will stem America's fall into the pit of financial insolvency?  Or into international irrelevancy?

What now will stop card-check and the subjugation of America to the clubs of union thugs?

You will have your own questions arising from Romney's defeat, but, as the tentmaker wrote:

The Moving Finger writes: and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.

What was written?  We know what Midway wrote for Japan, and Stalingrad for Germany, but we have yet to learn what was written on 6 November 2012.  We can only hope that it was not a similar tale.

Pre-Obama, American exceptionalism was the hope of the world.  Will it ever again be?
