Living with Divisiveness

"Commie" Sean Penn and "troglodyte" Kid Rock have united to make a "public service film" titled Americans. The ten-minute video ends with the two former foes riding bikes together as the message "Don't let politics divide us. Thinking differently... is what made this country great" appears on the screen.
The film opens with Penn and Rock standing in a bar blasting each other with some pretty funny name-calling until they are interrupted. First, a woman who waited years to become a U.S. citizen lambasts the two "spoiled" Americans for bickering over their political differences rather than appreciating their freedom, opportunity, and wealth. Then a news report appears on the television announcing the death of 26 Marines in Afghanistan, marking the tragic milestone of 2,000 soldiers killed since the war began. As Rock and Penn observe a moment of silence to honor the soldiers and their "ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom," Penn starts to cry. The man is one good actor.
The next four minutes are spent watching the new BFFs enrich each other's lives with exposure to their respective lifestyles. Rock buys a Prius (and hitches his rifle to the back); Penn holds a bucket for Rock to pee in at a green rally. Rock goes to a gay wedding; Penn drinks a beer. Rock wears a "PETA Rocks" shirt; Penn wears a "NASCAR" shirt. One gets the feeling that neither one of these men really understands what it means to be a conservative in this country, although Penn does a good job of exemplifying some of the more common liberal causes (the only thing missing was a visit to Planned Parenthood and the Sesame Street studios).
It is disappointing that Rock did not use the film to remind Penn that what made this country great was not individuals who thought "differently," but individuals who had similar values. America was built on principles of individual liberty, free enterprise, freedom of religion, and capitalism. It was certainly not built by colossal government, leaders who undermine the Constitution, and entitled citizens looking for handouts.
So to whom is this message directed? Certainly not those, like Rock, who "cling to guns and religion," and who are not the citizens threatening to riot in the streets if their candidate loses (notwithstanding the fact that such a loss, should it occur, may, in part, be due to rampant voter fraud). Penn, on the other hand, is living among some of the most virulently hateful left-wingers in the country. Yet I have not seen any evidence that he is taking his message to his Hollywood compatriots who are in desperate need of a lesson in civility and the country's founding principles.
In reaction to the second presidential debate, Hollywood lefties sent out vile tweets, including:
в—Џ Actress Eva Longoria, a co-chair of Obama's re-election campaign: "You have to be stupid to vote for such a racist/misogynistic twat."
в—Џ Actor Jared Leto: "Anyone else starting to think that Romney may be the antichrist?"
в—Џ Producer Judd Apatow: "I'm not sure that America is ready for a rich, white, homophobic president with a moderately shady business background."
в—Џ Actor Nathan Fillion: "...Romney is such a slimy lying toolbag."
Penn's response? Silence.
And then there were the scores of tweets threatening to assassinate Romney after the recent debate, including:
в—Џ "Somebody needs to assassinate This mofo Romney."
в—Џ "If Romney get elected I hope a nigga assassinate his bitchass."
в—Џ "If Romney win, IM GOING TO JAIL FOR MURDER cuz imaa whack his bitch ass ASAP."
в—Џ "IF ROMNEY GETS ELECTED AND TAKES AWAY MY FOOD STAMPS IMA SEND SOMEONE TO MURDER HIS ASS."
I understand why Penn did not reply to any of these, but where was Obama? This is the same man who injected himself into the middle of a police matter years ago because it involved a white officer arresting a black man. The embarrassing episode resulted in a beer summit in the Rose Garden. And Obama recently inserted himself into a banal disagreement between American Idol judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey and stated, "I'm all about bringing people together." Yeah right.
If that is the case, why, in a recent article titled "Will The Election Results Cause Massive Riots To Erupt All Over America?," were we treated to a list of tweets threatening chaos if Obama loses?
в—Џ "I Hope The USA Is Well Aware That If In The Event This Character Romney Wins The Election, The People Will Start A Country Wide Riot! #Power"
в—Џ "If ROMNEY GETS IN THE WHITE HOUSE ...U MIGHT AS WELL KILL ME NOW .....CAUSE ITS GONNA BE A ************ RIOT !!!"
в—Џ "If Romney became President and took away welfare Downtown Cincinnati would become a riot"
Where was Obama when the virulently ugly Louis Farrakhan accused Republicans of racism earlier this month, claiming, "It started like an undercurrent, but now it is so overtly hateful and racist in nature that it is polarizing America on the basis of race"? Obama was silent, because he is "the One" who has polarized this nation -- on the basis of race as well as religion, class, gender, and anything else he can come up with to, in his disillusioned and dysfunctional Chicago style, win votes.
In Obama's world, blacks are pitted against whites, but blacks are also pitted against each other when they do not fall into line. Take the case of actress Stacey Dash, who proclaimed her support of Romney in the upcoming election. In response to a vociferous Twitter backlash, including being told that she is not "black" enough and that she should just "kill herself," Dash stated, "It's my right as an American citizen, it's my constitutional right to have my choice to who [sic] I want to vote for for president. And I chose him not by the color of his skin, but the content of his character."
Stories abound of American citizens subjected to hate resulting from Obama's divisive politics. Even children are paying the price for the hatred that Obama has stoked. One high school student in Philadelphia was publicly rebuked by a teacher, who analogized her Romney t-shirt to a KKK sheet. Another North Carolina student was told he could go to jail for disrespecting Obama. And most recently, a Wisconsin school bus driver told a 12-year-old boy that he should have been aborted because the driver did not like the Romney/Ryan lawn sign at the boy's house.
The divisiveness in the country is seen at all levels. Obama encourages Occupy Wall Streeters to protest the 1% while he demonizes millionaires and billionaires and corporate jet owners. All the while, he has increased the ranks of government dependents on food stamps, disability, and welfare, thus pitting rich against poor. While ignoring the real war on terror threatening the country, Obama has invented a Republican war on women. He has set union member against union member, doctor against doctor, Catholic against Catholic, and Jew against Jew. A Jewish woman recently called me "disgusting and Godless" for supporting Romney. As Chicago becomes the murder capital of the world, Obama's Chicago style of governing may result in a nation facing similar levels of violence.
So while Rock and Penn play around with their modern-day version of Kumbaya, Americans are arming, tweets of violence abound, and the president sits back to admire his handiwork. Instead of hanging out with ChГЎvez and Castro, Penn should spend more time in the White House, because "don't let politics divide us" is as wistful a saying as "hope and change" when a man as divisive as Obama sits in the Oval Office.
Egypt is not the only country in which Twitter and Facebook can be used to foment and facilitate violence. And when rioters take to the streets when Obama loses on November 6, the whole world will know where the buck stops -- but it will be Americans who pay the price for Obama losing the blame game.
