Obama Flunks the Job Interview

On Thursday night, Barack Obama interviewed with the hiring manager -- the American voters -- to keep his job for another four years.  Any hiring manager using the past behavioral event interviewing method -- a technique where experience triumphs over hope -- would conclude that Obama flunked.  And flunked miserably.

Obama delivered the familiar harmonic swells and rhythmic cadences so typical of his now-tedious oratory.  Soothing ear-candy in a few places, but mostly empty exhortations.

The ending was breathtakingly insulting as Obama ultimately blamed the hiring manager -- the American people -- for having elected him in the first place.

So you see, the election four years ago wasn't about me.  It was about you.  My fellow citizens, you were the change.

While Obama's stated vision for prosperity, equity, justice, security, and compassion might have been noble, he offered no plan to reach such a utopia, nor did he discuss how the nation would pay for it.

Even his goals were vacuous -- merely categories for goal-setting.

I'm asking you to rally around a set of goals for your country, goals in manufacturing, energy, education, national security, and the deficit -- real, achievable plans that will lead to new jobs, more opportunity, and rebuild this economy on a stronger foundation.

I'm asking you to rally around ... real, achievable plans.

Mr. President, where is your plan?  And where is the evidence that your record since 2009 would lead to achieving any progress for the future in these categories?

How do you rally around a vacuum?

The remainder of Obama's job interview validated what many of us have known all along.  Obama's empathy masks his subversive ideology.  Obama's incompetence in governance is no accident.

References to his record were scarce.  Most were either trivial or actually initiated by someone else -- namely George W. Bush.  To wit:

I've signed trade agreements that are helping our companies sell more goods to millions of new customers, goods that are stamped with three proud words:  Made in America...

Four years ago, I promised to end the war in Iraq.  We did.

Not exactly.  Trade agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea were negotiated by Bush and languished on Obama's desk for four years.  The Iraq war was concluded by Bush with free elections in 2008 and troop withdrawal agreements set for 2011 under his Status of Forces Agreement.  Obama was a beneficial opportunistic bystander.

The Iranian government must face a world that stays united against its nuclear ambitions.  The historic change sweeping across the Arab World must be defined not by the iron fist of a dictator or the hate of extremists, but by the hopes and aspirations of ordinary people who are reaching for the same rights that we celebrate here today.

So, Mr. President, when the Iranian protesters begged for your support in 2009, where were you, and what did you do?  Can you describe specifically what concrete measures you installed to halt, as you describe, the "iron fist of a dictator or hate of extremists"?  What did you do to align America with "the hopes and aspirations of ordinary people"?

You can choose a future where we reduce our deficit without sticking it to the middle class.  Independent experts say that my plan would cut our deficits by $4 trillion.  And last summer, I worked with Republicans in Congress to cut billions in spending because those of us who believe government can be a force for good should work harder than anyone to reform it, so that it's leaner, and more efficient, and more responsive to the American people.

So, Mr. President, what have you done since 2009 to "reduce our deficit" and "cut billions in spending'"?

Mr. President, how did your $800-billion stimulus package work out?  You claimed at the time that the stimulus would drop the unemployment rate to 5.6% by now.  Yet it is still above 8%, not counting millions who have disappeared from the labor force or have claimed disability.

Mr. President, what happened to your official budget proposals for 2012 and for 2013?  Why did the Democrat-controlled Senate vote down both budgets overwhelmingly by 97-0 and 99-0?

Mr. President, what happened to the recommendations from your deficit reduction commission?  One of its co-authors Erskine Bowles had this to say:

The president came out with his own plan and the president, as you remember, came out with a budget, and I don't think anybody took that budget very seriously.

Instead, Mr. Bowles praised your opponents' (Paul Ryan) plan:

It is a sensible, serious, straightforward, and honest budget.

Now, I'm still eager to reach an agreement based on the principles of my bipartisan debt commission.  No party has a monopoly on wisdom.  No democracy works without compromise.

Mr. President, how did you advance the recommendations of your own bipartisan debt commission?  Bob Woodward's new book The Price of Politics describes, according to ABC News, total chaos, dysfunction, and arrogance.  You had a meaningful compromise within reach.  Yet you chose to overreach, setting forth a final demand that you knew the Republicans would reject.  What evidence can you muster to show you know how to command a productive bipartisan political process?

As Americans, we believe we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, rights that no man or government can take away.

So, Mr. President, why has your administration launched an assault on religious liberty?  How would your signature legislative achievement, ObamaCare, that engineers the federal government takeover of the entire health care system, preserve rights that no man or government can take away?

We insist on personal responsibility, and we celebrate individual initiative.

Mr. President, just a few weeks ago you said "You didn't build that."  Moreover, you have asserted that government enables individual initiative.  Have you changed your attitude about individual initiative and if so, why?

We're not entitled to success.  We have to earn it.

Mr. President, how will your plan to redistribute the wealth of the 10% who already pay 70% of the taxes to everybody else counteract the entitlement culture?  Why have you abandoned the work principles behind welfare reform?

We honor the strivers, the dreamers, the risk- takers, the entrepreneurs who have always been the driving force behind our free-enterprise system, the greatest engine of growth and prosperity the world has ever known.

Mr. President, you have devoted much of the last four years to vilifying anyone connected with free enterprise and capital formation?  And you want to raise taxes on this greatest engine of growth?

Four years ago, hope triumphed over ignorance, however willful, as Obama admitted, perhaps in the most astonishing segment of his job interview:

So you see, the election four years ago wasn't about me. It was about you. My fellow citizens, you were the change.

Here we have Obama subtly acknowledging the truth revealed in Dinesh D'Souza's film 2016: Obama's America.  Obama was simply the convenient, albeit plausible, vessel to assuage white guilt for racism and class oppression, so deftly brainwashed into a gullible electorate by the liberal progressives for some half a century.

So, Mr. President, are you now saying that you bear no responsibility for the failures of the past four years?  Instead, we are to blame for having elected you the first time around?

Well, Mr. President, this job interview is about finished.  We'll get back to you in nine weeks.  In the meantime, you might want to cancel those orders for new Oval Office furniture.  Human Resources will be happy to reimburse you for an Acela Express one-way ticket to any destination of your choice.
