The Perfect President for Today's America?
Chris Matthews really could be onto something by calling Barack Obama "the perfect father, the perfect husband, the perfect American." Barack Obama could very well be the most "perfect president" for today's America, considering what we have become.
Rush Limbaugh recently flew off the handle because Obama scolded this country's productive class. As Limbaugh pointed out, we used to chide folks who sat around being lazy, telling them to get off their keisters and get a job. The president has turned that around by vilifying successful people, saying that they didn't accomplish anything on their own. How dare they think that their long hours, their hard work, and a general spirit of stick-to-it-iveness resulted -- somehow -- in building a profitable business or providing the world with some innovative product or service?
As out-of-whack as Obama's observation about America's creative spirit is, the most telling of all was the audience's reaction -- people actually applauded and cheered! The crowd went wild in agreement with the president about his off-kilter remark.
Several weeks before the presidential election of 2008, Barack Obama was pressing the flesh in an Ohio town, having his photo taken with supporters and being cheered as America's potential savior. He was breezing along and smiling as he walked down the street, extending a hand to everyone he met. Then he approached an ordinary, run-of-the-mill fellow named Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher. And the resulting brief conversation between Joe the Plumber and Barack Obama was revelatory. Part of the great "fundamental transformation of America" was laid bare -- under an Obama administration, the haves were going to be expected to give a heck of a lot more to the have-nots. The era of wealth redistribution was about to dawn.
This revelation turned out to be so huge, in fact, that once the mainstream media got through with it, it resulted in a pea-sized bump in the road to Obama's march to the presidency.
During the current election cycle, more and more bad news about the economy, dismal employment figures, foreign-policy goof-ups, et al. are again causing pebble-sized ripples in Obama's ocean. What the Democrats and the mainstream media are telling the public is that they need to know more about Romney's tax returns and his involvement with a corporation years after he exited that very same corporation. That's what's important. Transparency.
Obama's college records and other relevant documents? Sealed. Fast and Furious memos? Executive privilege.
And what is more important to Americans right now than jobs and financial security? How about contraception for women, gay marriage, "free" health care, amnesty for illegal aliens...?
Apparently, enough citizens in this country are buying into all that. And since this is still a country of "We the People," the We appear to be very, very content with how the political news cycle is being played out by the mainstream media.
When ancient Rome introduced bread and circuses to the hoi polloi, they cheered and clamored for more. Everybody got what he or she wanted. The rulers stayed fat and happy; the citizens stayed ignorant and fat and happy.
Present-day America may be like the latter-day Roman Empire -- but with this very significant difference: then, the Christians were thrown in with the lions. Today, the Christians have thrown in with the Empire. With well over 60 percent of Americans professing to be believing Christians, they are the biggest voting bloc in this country. However, many of today's Christians will faithfully pull the lever for the Democrats, the party of gay marriage, abortion rights, and race divisiveness, simply because that's the way they and their family have always voted. What else explains it?
Ardent Gospel-believing Christians in so-called black churches will vote for Obama once again because a) he's black and b) he's a Democrat. Christian principles and "content of character" -- what's any of that got to do with anything? (Dr. Martin Luther King is still spinning in his grave.)
And white-guilt Christians? Well, they wanted to set things right by giving a black fellow a chance. That's how you make up for slavery and Jim Crow laws and whites-only lunch counters and segregation, as well as other race-related sins.
Can someone check to see if the road to hell is still paved with good intentions?
The big question going forward: will there be enough reasonable and godly people left in this country who will stand up for the principles set forth by our Founding Fathers? Will the 30 percent or so of Evangelical Christians who are not yet registered to vote get their act together and make the effort? Will the number-one excuse for not voting -- "I was too busy" -- prove nonexistent to the side of righteousness and decency in this year's most critical tally? Will "Enough is enough!" be the rallying cry of citizens who sincerely love this country?
Let's face it: an impressive constituency, made up of welfare recipients, food stamp collectors, abortion lovers, open border advocates, "free" health care grabbers, man-made global warming alarmists, and the like is being pulled together daily by this president. And why? Because he believes that there are enough of these types of people existing in this nation to put him over the top for a second term. This is Obama's America.
We've all had almost four years to get a crystal-clear picture of the ideas and ideals of the man currently sitting in the Oval Office. There can be no more excuses or guesswork. So, America will definitely define itself and its direction with the November 6 election.
And the saddest thing of all? Finding out on that day that Barack Obama really is this country's "perfect president."
