Obama Not the Only One Playing the Blame Game

We are all quite familiar with the "blame game" played by President Barack Hussein Obama.  Nothing is ever his fault.  His blaming of everyone (especially George W. Bush) and/or everything for his problems has become quite comical.  Below is a very partial list of some of the things Obama has said or done in an effort to shift blame from himself.  The list begins with my personal favorite:

  • Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) blocks Obama's jobs bill; Obama blames Republicans: in October 2011, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell called for unanimous consent to proceed to vote on Obama's American Jobs Act bill. It was the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid who blocked a vote. But that didn't stop Obama from specifically naming House majority leader Eric Cantor in a campaign speech in Dallas, Texas.

Obama said, "... House Republicans haven't acted to pass it.  And House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is out there actually bragging that they won't even put the jobs package up for a vote - ever. But here's something you can do: Find Republican members of Congress on Twitter, call them out, and demand they pass this bill."

But there was nothing in Obama's speech about Reid's actions.

  • Obama blames Founding Fathers for his troubles: Obama said, "Our Founders designed a system that makes it more difficult to bring about change than I would like sometimes."

He actually said that.  The Founding Fathers were trying to prevent exactly what Obama is trying to do.

  • Obama blames Europe's financial crisis for U.S. economic woes: Obama is arguing that the European debt crisis is one of the biggest problems facing the U.S. economy. He claims that Europe's debt crisis is frightening investors, slowing the U.S. economic recovery, and stalling job-creation.

I guess the "It's Europe's fault" excuse is, for the MSM, better than nothing.

  • Obama blames Republicans for deficit: while campaigning in 2008, Obama called Bush "unpatriotic" for running a deficit. He also promised to halve the deficit by the end of his first term.

In May 2011, he said, "I don't know how they've been bamboozling folks into thinking that they are the responsible, fiscally-disciplined party.  They run up these wild debts and then when we take over we have to clean it up."

Will the ironies never cease?

But it turns out that Obama isn't the only one playing the "blame game."  Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Obama supporters are also playing the game.

Here is a partial list of some of the things Harry Reid has said or done in an effort to shift blame.

  • Reid blames Republicans for slavery, blockage of Civil Rights Act of 1964: in 2009, Reid compared opponents of health care reform to conservatives who tried to block emancipation and equal rights. GOP leaders want a slower, incremental approach to health care reform. Reid started by saying of Republicans, "Slow down, it's too early. Let's wait. Things aren't bad enough" -- about slavery. He continued, "When this body was on the verge of guaranteeing equal civil rights to everyone, regardless of the color of their skin, some senators resorted to the same filibuster threats that we hear today."

Reid intended to scold Republicans for blocking the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  I guess history was not one of Reid's better subjects.

  • Reid blames Tea Party extremism for "Taxmaggedon": in a response to a letter sent by 41 Republican senators, Reid responded: "Unfortunately, it appears that Republicans' blind adherence to Tea Party extremism is making it impossible to reach this sort of balanced agreement before the election."

And this from the same man who has yet to pass a budget in over 1,000 days.  Who exhibits extremism?

  • Reid blames deficit on tax cuts for the rich: in September, 2011, Reid said $3 trillion of the U.S. budget deficit was caused by tax cuts to the rich under the Bush administration. Millionaires and billionaires, Reid said, benefited from Bush tax cuts, and he called on those who have benefited from the tax policies that sank this country deeper and deeper and deeper into debt to help get us out of this debt.

Spending, I'm quite sure, had nothing to do with the deficit.

  • Reid blames House of Representatives and Delta Airlines for FFA shutdown: in 2011, Reid said, "The House has tried to make this a battle over essential air service. It's not a battle over essential air service. It's a battle over Delta Airlines, who refuses to allow votes under the new rules that have been passed by the NLRB [National Labor Relations Board]."

Is this a case of union extremism, of payback to unions?

Now House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has joined in the "blame game."

  • Pelosi blames Fast and Furious investigation on...everybody: Pelosi said Republicans are investigating Eric Holder because they want to distract him from stopping voter suppression laws.

The "voter suppression laws" to which she referred are voter ID laws which have been upheld as constitutional.

  • Pelosi blames George W. Bush for 2010 election losses: in January 2011, Pelosi said, "We still would have lost the election because we had 9.5 percent unemployment. Let's take it where that came from. The policies of George W. Bush and the Republican support for his initiatives, tax cuts are for the wealth, recklessness by some."

But the Democrats, who had majorities in both houses in Congress, bear no responsibility for their actions between January 2009 and November 2010.

  • Pelosi blames GOP for unemployment: in June 2011, on CBS's Face the Nation, Pelosi gave some rather evasive answers to host Bob Schieffer's questions. When Schieffer asked about why the Republican control of Congress prevented the Democrats from proposing legislation that might help solve the unemployment problem, Pelosi responded, "We're not in the majority in the House. And so you're saying to me why haven't we brought something to the floor to create jobs? I think that's a better question asked to the Republicans because they control the agenda."

Please explain, Ms. Pelosi, what agenda control has to do with legislation proposal.  Or better yet, just answer the question.

  • Pelosi blames "profiteering" for skyrocketing gas prices: and, of course, she blames Republicans. In February 2012, Pelosi said, "Independent reports confirm that speculators are driving up the cost of oil, hurting consumers and potentially damaging the economic recovery. Wall Street profiteering, not oil shortages, is the cause of the price spike."

But now, when gas prices are falling, we don't hear a word from her.

Obama supporters are even getting into the act.  They are blaming the "do nothing Congress" for this country's jobs woes.  Council of Economic Advisers chairman Alan Krueger said that Congress needs to pass more components of the American Jobs Bill that Obama announced last year -- you know, the one Reid blocked.

Appearing on CNBC, Department of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis said that "Congress needs to take action" to accelerate job growth.

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, calling the latest job figures (from May 2012) "alarming and unacceptable," stressed that the blame rested with Congress for not doing more to revive the economy.

Reid, Pelosi, and Obama supporters should thank Obama for playing the "blame game" so well that their blames go relatively unnoticed.
