Road to Road Island

This week the White House website announced that the Vice President was traveling to "Road Island," an error typical of the many risible illiteracies that regularly appear there, and of the inattention to detail that is the hallmark of the credentialed moronacracy that is this Administration.

Biden's trip to the Ocean State  was to announce that Governor Linc Chafee was going to be one of the almost three dozen co-chairs of the Obama Campaign.

Surely you remember Linc. He's the fellow the NRSC (National Republican Senate Committee) gave money to in connection with his failed bid at re-election as Senator. He was ranked No. 1 RINO by Human Events at the time and he was not even bound to support President Bush's judicial nominees in exchange for the Committee's considerable support.

Others on the Obama campaign committee include actress Eva Longoria whose strategic input will I'm sure be invaluable -- though I doubt any suggestion by her that the Committee be renamed "Desperate Democrat Housewives" will fly even with these folks. Linc and Eva  will be joined, too, by Loretta Harper, a Nevadan high school counselor who has proudly acknowledged giving 100 high school kids extra credit when they volunteered to help Obama.

There was much more evidence of the Administration's inattention to important details from small to large matters.  Hoping to win over Irish voters, the Obama campaign produced O'Bama T-shirts with four leaf clovers instead of shamrocks. Just the thing to swing the Irish vote.

The Administration's errors are as evident this week  in large matters. Light Squared comes to mind, where, had it not been for some brave men like General Shelton who resisted White House pressure and objected to the Administration- propped up LightSquared, the FCC would have put in place their product  which was incompatible with existing GPS guidance systems:

Based on the test results and analysis to date, the LightSquared network would effectively jam vital GPS receivers," General William L. Shelton, commander of U.S. Air Force Space Command, told the members of the House Subcommittee on Strategic Forces. "And to our knowledge thus far, there are no mitigation options that would be effective in eliminating interference to essential GPS services in the United States."

What sort of essential GPS systems might he be talking about? Not just your auto guidance but the entire civil aviation and positioning system -- in other words, such interference is no small thing.

The Daily Caller which has covered so much big news this week, broke the story that the Federal Communications Commission propped up LightSquared  both by favorable regulations and by driving its competitors out of business.

This is a seedy tale which reveals how beginning in 2008 the owners of what became LightSquared made conveniently timed very efficacious contributions to Democrats and a series of "Obama-hired ties".

Highlights of this lengthy expose include these:

(a) Favorable regulatory actions

On March 22, 2010, SkyTerra's shareholders approved the merger with Falcone's Harbinger. Four days later, on March 26, 2010, FCC staffers approved the merger. Commissioners never got the opportunity to vote on the merger, a move that is uncommon for such a large-scale deal with far-reaching implications in the marketplace and in the federal wireless policy realm. Usually, with a decision this important, the FCC would elevate it from the bureaucratic staff level to the full Commission for approval.

Three days later, Epstein acquired several hundred thousand shares of SkyTerra stock, according to SEC filings. On April 5, 2010, Gips, a top Obama aide who later became the U.S. ambassador to South Africa, cashed in his stock options for about a half-million dollars.

(b) Attempting to drive LightSquared competitors out of business

AT&T and Verizon, shocked by the deal, sent scathing comments via their attorneys, questioning the reasoning behind the FCC's decision.

"Although it is impossible to know what motivated the Commission's insistence on merger conditions penalizing AT&T and Verizon - since neither the Bureau Order nor any public filing in the proceeding even addresses the issue - there is no possible justification for these conditions," AT&T's attorneys wrote, asking the FCC to reconsider the deal's conditions.

While there is no clear evidence pointing to exactly why the FCC penalized Verizon and AT&T, the publicly stated goals of those Soros-funded organizations that supported the move may be a clue. They believe wireless spectrum "belongs to the public," and should be subject to as little corporate influence as possible. Their goal is to create a community-oriented, taxpayer-subsidized and highly regulated broadband system, essentially making Internet access a public utility.

LightSquared isn't giving up yet. There might still be some greasible palms left and positions to be filled by Obama staffers:

Lightsquared isn't going down without a fight, however.  According to the Wall Street Journal, it's looking to strike a deal with the Department of Defense, which owns a portion of the spectrum farther away from GPS signals. An LTE network on those frequencies wouldn't cause any interference with GPS. But for the deal to work, Lightsquared and the DoD would basically have to swap frequencies -- and the DoD hasn't given any indication that it's interested in trading. If the deal falls through, Lightsquared will have to look elsewhere -- or to try to sell off its spectrum.

The White House is still refusing to respond to Congressional subpoenas about its role in the half-billion dollar swindle at Solyndra.

I don't know about you, but this reminds me of this exchange in the Hope-Crosby-Lamour Road to Morocco:

Turkey Jackson: How'd you get the spinach, old boy?

Jeff Peters: Funny thing, a guy I've never seen before in my life gives me 2,500 Kolacs... . that's 200 federal diplomas, are you listening?

Turkey Jackson: 200 skins? Why, what for?

Jeff Peters: I sold him something.

Turkey Jackson: Well you've got nothing to sell! We've already hocked your pivot tooth.

Jeff Peters: It wasn't much, but it was all I had, and was he anxious to get it!

Turkey Jackson: What did you sell him?

Jeff Peters: Look, uh, Orville, I want you to keep very calm now. Don't get excited.

Turkey Jackson: [grabbing Jeff, nervous] What did you sell him?

Jeff Peters: You.

Still, the press covers for the President and his gang of thieves. For one thing they attack anyone who is the least bit critical of Obama. For example, if  one mentions that the President's misinterpretation of scripture reflects that he is merely using religion opportunistically -- something the record surely supports -- one can expect a rapid attack in response.  Bgates has these critics' number I think:

[quote] I get the sense sometimes that there are an awful lot of people who think

1) Christianity is a cult that for 2000 years has been oppressing women and homosexuals, abusing children, subverting science, and justifying imperialism, and

2) It's an outrage for anyone to suggest our dear President isn't a member.

For another, they are providing him with endless coverups for his own failings.

My friend jimmyk gives us a concrete example of the media hand-in-glove-with-Obama routine, as the President  tries to blame others for the rising gas prices caused by his own feckless policies:

So here's a good example of how the MSM works in tandem with Obama.

Feb 16: Politico has a story with the lede: "Gasoline prices are on the rise, and Republicans are licking their chops."

Of course, nothing in the story supports the insinuation that Republicans are happy about higher gas prices, only that they are critical of administration policy.

Then today, Barry puts it in a speech:

"Some politicians, they see this as a political opportunity. I know you're shocked by that. Last week the lead story in one newspaper said, 'Gasoline prices are on the rise and Republicans are licking their chops.' That's a quote. That's the lead. Licking their chops. Only in politics do people root for bad news. They greet bad news so enthusiastically," Obama said. "You pay more, they're licking their chops."

It's the old "big lie" technique, straight out of "Der Sturmer." And of course no one will call him on it.

Obama seems to have an endless supply of both advance men and straw men, doesn't he?
