Iceland Recognizes Palestine

On November 29, 2011, Althingi, the Icelandic parliament, voted to recognize Palestine as a state.  The resolution was adopted without objections, with 38 votes in favor and 13 abstentions.

Icelandic Foreign Minister Ossur Skarphedinsson stated that Iceland "... supported the Palestinian cause and today will not be the end of that, we will continue to do so."  In his speech, Skarphedinsson stated that he]"had been to Gaza ... [and] talked to the people [such as] the fishermen that no longer can ply their trade, the young people that have no employment, the families that need a roof over their heads."

And this is the fault of whom?  Who is stopping these people?  Hamas now controls Gaza.  Gaza is no longer under any Israeli jurisdiction.  There is no Israeli occupation.  In fact, if it were not for the terrorism mandated by Hamas, Gaza could conceivably be a resort area comparable to Monaco.

The minister went on to say that he "has been to the West Bank ... and [seen] with my own eyes how the land of the Palestinians is literally cut to pieces by horrible walls of separation."  Odd that he fails to mention the terror that for years rained upon the Israelis and which has subsided since the erection of the fence protecting Jew and Arab alike.

This is the same Icelandic minister who "ordered Icelandic diplomats to remain in the hall while Iranian President Ahmadinejad spoke at the Durban review conference in Geneva in 2009 [while] diplomats from almost all other European countries left."  Furthermore, Skarphedinsson requested that Israel "unconditionally abandon its maritime blockade on Gaza."

The text of the resolution adopted by Althingi recognizes Palestine "as an independent and sovereign state within the pre-1967 Six Day War borders."

Based on this, Israel will virtually cease to exist.

Furthermore, Althingi believes that the "PLO or Palestine Liberation Organization is the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and also recalls the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their former homes in accordance with resolutions reaffirmed by the United Nations."

In essence, there will be a return to the policy enforced from 1948-1967 by Jordan when Jews were not permitted to visit their most holy sites.  Ultimately, any Jewish presence would simply disappear as the country was overrun by millions of Palestinian refugees.

To put it quite bluntly, Iceland wishes to totally destroy Israel.  It is the official call for Israel's eradication.

And yet in the past, during the tense times in 1949 during the U.N. debate over the partition resolution, Icelandic Ambassador Thor Thors, when approached by Abba Eban, explained that "Iceland was filled with Biblical memories and was a stubborn and tenacious democracy ... and that such a people could be relied upon to understand the perseverance with which the Jewish people clung to its own specificity and to the recollections of its own patrimony."

Ambassador Thor Thors must be turning over in his grave now.  Was Ambassador Thor Thors the anomaly or is the current recognition of Palestine more in tune with true Icelandic behavior over the years?

According to Vilhjalmur Orn Vilhjalmsson of the JCPA, during WWII, "a few Icelandic members of the Waffen-SS fought for Nazi Germany, and a few Icelanders served in concentration camps in 1943-1944."  Furthermore, "the son of Sveinn Bjornsson, the first president of the Republic of Iceland was a member of the S.S.  He was rescued from prosecution in Denmark by the Icelandic authorities and later lived in Argentina."

What a shocker!

Moreover, in 1997, "it did not make headlines in Iceland when it became known that in the late 1930s the Icelandic authorities had offered to pay for the further expulsion of Jews to Germany, if the Danish authorities would not take care of them after they had been expelled from Iceland."

Over the years, support for the Palestinians in Iceland has been characterized by repeated comparisons of Israel to Nazi Germany.  Thus, the odious and vile site www.shoah.org.uk, featuring a Palestinian girl next to the sign "SHOAH: THE PALESTINIAN HOLOCAUST," is ecstatic about the recent decision.  The perversity of these endless lies knows no bounds.

In Commentary Magazine, Evelyn Gordon writes that "in other words, the resolution declared that it isn't enough for the Palestinians to have one state; they ought to have two: one in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, and another in pre-1967 Israel, which would be converted from a Jewish-majority to a Palestinian-majority state by flooding it with some five million descendants of the 1948 refugees."

Skarphedinsson stated that "recognizing Palestine would be in the spirit of reconciliation in the region and that it would be foolish to deny Palestine the right to statehood in the middle of the democratic revolution brought on by the Arabic spring."

I guess he missed the memo about the emergence of the Muslim Brotherhood in this alleged Arab Spring.  This is the Muslim Brotherhood who vows to exterminate Israel, murder the world's Jews, and ultimately obliterate the West through gradual stealth jihad.

Given that Obama has welcomed the Muslim Brotherhood and has regularly shown his animus toward Israel and Jews, it should come as no surprise that Skarphedinsson stated that Iceland "should welcome Palestine as a new Member State to the United Nations, based on the borders before 1967 -- exactly the same criteria as laid down by the EU, by the Quartet, and lately by President Obama in his speech in May."

As Hanukah begins tonight, Israelis and Jews of the Diaspora must sorrowfully note that the world has now taken on the Nazi stance of the '30s with a vengeance that is breathtaking and tragic.

Simply put, part of the world will not be satisfied until Israel is crushed and destroyed and all Jews become an extinct race, as was the plan of Adolf Hitler.
