NAACP Spits into the Wind -- with Obvious Results
At the July 2010 NAACP "One Nation One Dream" Convention, the NAACP spit into the wind hoping to damage the growing Tea Party movement and avoid the Democrats losing any of their power following the November elections. But spitting into the wind can be risky, and in the NAACP's case, it resulted in revealing the organization's own racist dishonesty.
Sadly, the NAACP's "One Nation One Dream" has strayed far from the dreams of Martin Luther King, Jr. On August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stood before the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. and expressed his dreams. He dreamed that one day, this nation would rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed "that all men are created equal"...that sons of slaves and sons of slave-owners would be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood...and where men would not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. He believed that "with this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood." Dr. King believed that "with this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day. ... Let freedom ring."
Sadly, the NAACP's "One Nation One Dream" Convention has abandoned Dr. King's dreams. Abandoned is the dream of freedom and replaced with the dream of turning race against race. Abandoned is the dream of a nation becoming a beautiful symphony of brotherhood when its keynote speaker, First Lady Michelle Obama, calls upon the black need to "increase intensity"; who insulted and defamed the members of the Tea Party movement as "racist" while ignoring the racist NAACP speakers who referred to black Tea Party members as "Uncle Toms" and "Negro"; while ignoring SEIU members beating up a black Tea Party member, Kenneth Gladney, because he was "not black enough"; while ignoring the "kill cracker babies" statements of the New Black Panthers; while ignoring the NAACP's Legal Defense fund assisting the New Black Panthers regarding the 2008 voter intimidation cases. Have the dreams been replaced by a nightmare of hatred?
Last week, Geraldo Rivera confronted Malik Zulu Shabazz, the president of the New Black Panthers regarding his organization's racist activities. Shabazz supported his group's racist acts and further stated the New Black Panthers intend to disrupt Glenn Beck's August 28 rally at the Lincoln Monument, claiming it is disrespectful to blacks because it takes place on Dr. King's birthday. When Geraldo countered that Dr. King's birthday is in January, Shabazz corrected himself and stated that Beck is being disrespectful to blacks because August 28 is the date of Martin Luther King's death. That too is incorrect; Dr. King died on April 4, 1968. Shabezz also accused Geraldo and his relatives of betraying Castro's Cuba by fleeing to America; Rivera's father was Puerto Rican, and his mother was Ashkenazi Jewish. Shabazz further bragged that the New Black Panther uniforms were copies of the uniforms worn by the beloved Cuban leaders, Castro and Che. The "beloved" Castro and Che executed over 100,000 Cuban political prisoners without a trial and incarcerated over 350,000 Cuban citizens. Che, who referred to himself as Stalin II, enjoyed torturing and abusing prisoners and set up Castro's forced labor camps. The true disrespect to black people is not Glenn Beck's August 28 rally, but Shabazz's sociopath racist hatred, his indifference to accuracy regarding the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., and his praise of Cuban genocidal leaders.
So what is the dream of the NAACP? Does it dream of cleaning up its own ranks of racist members? Does it dream of discontinuing support of unions who beat up black men because they "are not black enough"? Does it dream of discontinuing its support of the racist Castro and Che worshiping New Black Panters? Does it dream of no longer calling black Tea Party members "Uncle Toms" and "Negros"? Or will it continue spitting into the wind while we watch the dreams of brotherhood and freedom disappear?
