Obama and the Left at the Brink

President Obama's attempt to paint the Republicans into a corner with his latest health care reform proposal, and his determination to pass health care reform using outright lies and obfuscation, highlights what has become the motto of this administration: The end justifies any means. Is this what the majority of the Left in America signed onto?

In President Obama's desperation to pass his radical health care reform bill, we have had the public show of the Obama administration and the (once-)mainstream media searching in vain for that elusive consensus that those dastardly Republicans, who only want to see the president fail, refuse to provide.

The Democrats and the president have not been able to bribe or coerce any Republicans into backing either the House or Senate version of the health care bill. The strategy was altered to rely on the (once-)mainstream media to portray the Republican Party as evil, obstructionist, in the pocket of big business, against the little guy, and the personification of hate...thus the Blair House "bipartisan" show produced and directed by the president himself.

Before the ascendancy of the alternate media, this was a very successful tactic in intimidating some Republicans into voting for a bill providing the Democrats with the façade of consensus. But thanks to the internet, talk radio and cable news, the current Republicans in office are not as easily cowed as many of their predecessors were. Nonetheless, the Obama administration reverted to this now-threadbare maneuver when it came to their last-ditch effort to push health care reform.

After the failure of this tactic, there was only one alternative left to the Democrats: Pass the Senate version of the health care reform by any means possible, regardless of public sentiment or the long-term well-being of the country.

At present, the power in Washington, D.C. resides within the true believer segment of the American Left. While a minority within the movement, they have been enabled by the majority within the coalition, who have been duped into supporting the left-wing agenda as a result of various social or behavioral factors.

The true believers, led by President Obama, have their roots in Marxism: class struggle to overturn the oppression under capitalism into a socialist and ultimately classless society by any means possible. In their worldview, the United States is the epitome of this oppression.

Therefore, to the hardcore Left, any tactics are justified and include the following:

  • Make promises that cannot be kept or have never been intended to be kept while stating their support for the poor and dispirited.
  • Shamelessly exploit envy, race, and ignorance.
  • Portray government as the savior while exaggerating or creating fallacious reports of capitalistic greed and dishonesty.
  • Use embellished or outright false statistics to make the case for any policy.
  • Tell the world how smart they are, and thus capable of leading the Proletariat to the Promised Land.
  • And above all, be relentless, including to the point of bankrupting the country, to achieve the objective: namely, power for the sake of power.
However, the president and his appointed or elected cohorts would not be in a position to forever change the future of the United States were it not for the duped Leftists who function as enablers for the movement at large.

In the 1960s, a social revolution took place against historical and societal norms. An era of peace and prosperity unprecedented in the history of mankind was underway in the United States, allowing a new generation to focus on hedonistic pursuits, self-aggrandizement, and a search for "meaning" in their lives.

Many traditions based on the religious foundation of the country and the societal mores which sprang from them came to be viewed as standing in the way of allowing the population to experience absolute freedom. The very necessary civil rights movement, which achieved so much, was hijacked by many of the post-Depression generation into a call to overthrow all of society's norms.

This mindset coupled with the Johnson administration's mishandling of the Vietnam War helped begin a broad movement. It was promptly seized upon by the true believers on the Left as a recruiting pool; Leftists proclaimed to the gullible that the United States was an unjust and repressive tool of capitalism. The siren song of a classless society wherein all are treated fairly and there are no absolutes found eager ears.

Over the intervening years and into the present, the unfounded fear (as promoted by the Left) of the so-called religious right and conservatives' desire to turn the country into a theocracy became the basis for many of the gullible to promote the policies of the true believers without understanding what they in fact stood for. It was more important to protect their lifestyles than comprehend what was happening around them, or the controlling agenda they unwittingly supported.

Today, after decades of financial and grassroots support, those duped in the once-mainstream media, in the arts, in academia, on Wall Street, in the environmental movement, and in the civil rights coalition have succeeded in putting into office the most radical government in the nation's history.

Soon it will dawn on many in the Left that the policies being promulgated and forced through by President Obama will have a profound effect on their lives and the futures of their children and grandchildren.

The health care reform bill that the president is hell-bent on enacting is not about access to health care. Rather, it is an attempt to ultimately control the behavior of the citizenry. Once government regulates the access to and the cost of medical treatments, it can and will (see Europe) dictate what behavior is acceptable under the guise of controlling expenditures. Those who have faithfully supported the Left may well find the very behavior deemed so central to their lives outlawed by the government.

Thanks to the policy initiatives of President Obama, within eight years, the national debt of the United States will exceed 100% of the gross domestic product, putting the country in the same category as the most mismanaged of third-world nations. The dollar will be worth perhaps half or less than what it is today, and the standard of living will decline nearly as much.  This will affect not only those evil conservatives, but everyone, Left and Right. However, future generations on both sides of the political spectrum will suffer the most.

When the United States can no longer borrow money and its economy is dead in the water due to excessive taxes and regulations, how will the nation defend itself? How will it finance a dominant military? How safe will the Left and the rest of us be from those who wish us harm?

It is difficult to admit mistakes, but the time has come for those on the Left who have been hoodwinked by the true believers in the movement to wake up to reality. When listening to the president, understand that his radical ideology and ego are his only motivation; if it were the best interest of the United States, then he would not justify the use of all means necessary to pass his health care reform agenda.
