The Mental Dry-Run

When I have a job to do around the house, I often do a dry-run in my mind, imagining how the job has to be done and how it will come out. What I have noticed is that many times, after the mental rehearsal, I forget to do the job! The mind generated a "job completed" check mark as if the real job were actually done.

Judging a mental dry-run to be complete without some kind of reality check is asking for trouble. Of course, things never go like the mental dry-run, as anyone can attest who bought shares in GM after a mental dry-run assured that the government would not let it go into bankruptcy.

The mental dry-run is the key to understanding the far-left mind and its various conflicts with reality. The mental dry-run had already previewed the accomplishments that would earn President Obama the Nobel Peace Prize, never mind that none were yet achieved.

The mental dry-run in the minds of Obama voters had already checked off that the inevitable magic of hope and change (?) would achieve the unachievable. The Hope and Change Bridge to the Garden of Eden is increasingly sagging under the weight of reality.

According to the mental dry-run, a flower-power foreign policy would surely produce a fairy-tale world community. Never mind the total contradiction of the lessons of history. This Chamberlainesque approach continues despite accelerated nuclear weapons development in Iran and North Korea and a resounding nyet to Hillary in Moscow.

A quick mental rehearsal assured that the public will love the taste of government health care cod-liver oil once it is forced down their throats, never mind the anger at the town halls this summer.

A similar dry-run indicated the American people will love Congress for forcing them to buy expensive health insurance under threat of fines or imprisonment, never mind their 21% approval rating.

A quick dry-run showed a public dislike for Wall Street so intense that the bald-headed guy (as my wife calls him) can pressure a CEO to forgo all pay and bonuses for 2009.

It must have been the same dry-run that concluded that businesses can still be looted (and counted on for a political donation) despite being overtaxed, over-regulated, and excoriated.

A mental dry-run demonstrated that Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Sheriff Arpaio are the real enemies, never mind those prayer rugs found in the Arizona desert.

The conclusion of the mental dry-run was that Sarah Palin, George W. Bush, and Ronald Reagan must be dimwits since their conclusions don't confirm all those other dry-run ideas.

Likewise, the American people have been dry-run as a bunch of dolts (after all, look at whom they voted for) who would never notice the carnival of radical clowns populating the administration and the czardoms.

The same American people (according to the dry-run) can be expected to be civil while all kinds of unpopular Left-of-Lenin policies are forced on them. If not, they can safely be called Nazi or racist.

Another dry-run said it is OK to hate, lie, cheat, and smear (or worse), and still claim the moral high ground.

While the mental dry-run is ubiquitous in the far-left mind, it can also be found elsewhere.  The McCain campaign dry-run concluded that their no-experience opponent could be defeated by being "nice" and never bringing up the list of his questionable radical and corrupt associations as long as Paul Bunyan's arm.

The liberal dry-run showed that the American people will not object to trashing the Constitution. Apparently most of the Congress don't understand (or don't care) what is in it, and they must also think the people don't know what is in the Declaration of Independence.

Clear evidence of the mental dry-run can be found in the response of the defender of the administration who, when faced with a difficult question, responds with "I don't think that is true," as if this were sufficient to refute the point, followed by unrelated talking points such as an attack on Bush. Such a response reveals that the leftist sees no need to deal with reality, only the conclusions of his own mind. Those are reality for him. When the mental conclusion clashes with the facts, the facts are usually discarded.

When Dorothy and her friends knocked at the door to The Emerald City, they were told that no one had ever seen the Wizard. Dorothy countered with the question, "How do you know he exists?" The far left know the Wizard exists (maybe he is Barack Obama) and that the wizardry will happen someday. Wizardry is required to make true all the mental dry-runs, a collection of ideas which defy common sense. In other words, they are not connected to reality, as any average American living in the real world could attest.

In the end, reality will bite back. There is no fury like a scorned Lady Reality.
