The Next 18 Days

The last debate is over, and the race is in its final stretch. And in all probability McCain's debate performance changed little. At least not for the better. Perhaps it made the struggle harder for McCain, for, as the candidate running behind, the media will trumpet that he had to win, and he did not.

Whatever the perceived outcome of the debate, 18 days remain before the American people make their choice. Rather than debate the outcome of the debate, I suggest we all intensify our efforts to help our nation avert disaster.

This means insisting that the McCain campaign redouble its commitment to combining a positive message about the economy, with an unsparing, ruthless exposure of who Barack Obama is and what the country risks by his election.

If McCain will not do the latter, this is the time for the 527's to swing into heavy action; this is the time for those independent of the McCain campaign, who have sufficient funds, to make major buys in all the battleground states explaining:

1. Starkly and without apology -- just who Obama's most significant associations were and what these associations mean: the racist America hater Jeremiah Wright; the unreconstructed Marxist revolutionary Bill Ayres and his loathsome wife, the cop murder suspect Bernardine Dohrn; the low life crook and Chicago fixer Tony Rezko; the Israel-hating Columbia Professor Rashid Khalidi [to whom Obama funneled money through the Woods fund]; the black radical separatist and racist Khalidi al-Mansour; the radical socialist Kenya politician Raila Odinga, who fomented tribal violence and the murder of Christians when he lost the election for the Presidency of Kenya; the all around America hater, Jew hater and racist Louis Farrakhan; and, finally, the socialist revolutionary Saul Alinsky, who, like Ayers, realized violent revolution is not the way to go to bring Marxism to America, and changed his tactics but not his goals. There may be others, but this list is a good start. Google any of the foregoing names with Obama and enough verifiable material emerges to form the stuff of a hundred ads.

2. That all of America's sworn enemies are praying for Obama's victory: Hamas has endorsed him; Iran's Mullah's pray for his success; Al Qaida is holding its breath; ditto the Taliban; and Putin, too, would love to see the softie in the White House. The list goes on, but the theme is astounding: never in our nation's history have our enemies been so unified in their support for an American Presidential candidate because of their unanimous perception of his weakness.

3. That Obama's public statements and voting record reveal his contempt for average Americans (who "cling bitterly to their guns and religion") and for their values; and that Obama is the most radical pro-abortionist to run for the presidency, ever, to the left even of Barbara Boxer, who voted to protect life after birth following an "unsuccessful" abortion, a minor step in the direction of protecting innocent life that the indecent Obama could not bring himself to take; and, that Obama has lied about his stance on homosexual marriage which, contrary to his public statements, he supports: why has no one pointed out that Obama opposes California Proposition 8, which would restore the traditional definition of marriage (after the California Supreme Court's judicial usurpation) by inserting the traditional definition into the State Constitution. Without this amendment homosexual marriage will become the law of California, through judicial decree, and, ultimately, the law of all America (including Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, Colorado, Virginia, Florida, etc.).

4. That Obama's crushing new taxes will fall on all productive people and destroy America's economy, competitiveness and millions of jobs.

From all we can tell the electorate remains transfixed, mesmerized, infuriated, by an economy it incorrectly perceives to be scarier than Al Qaida, Hamas, Iran-with-the-bomb, the prospect of Israel's destruction, Russia and China on the march, oceans of illegal immigrants, Marxist-inspired revolutionary change at home, and a metastasizing social decay that manifests itself in schools that indoctrinate rather than educate, voter roles padded with fraud promoted by government funds, crime rates that render entire cities unfit for civilized habitation, and a collapsing social order in which anyone can marry anyone (or anything), abortion-on-demand is the norm, and our entire Judeo Christian heritage is marginalized by a sneering judicial elite that arrogates to itself the power to make all important decisions.

That's a lot to accept in return for a promise, from a messiah figure, of unattainable economic equality, unachievable freedom from all economic uncertainty, and free meds in old age. But it would appear that this exchange looks good now to a majority of the voting populace.

They are not thinking; they are not informed; and they have not begun to focus on the horrific trade they are being asked to make, because the reeking landfill of Obama's downside has been hidden by a compliant media while it has remained unaddressed by Obama's timid opponents.

Can a three week crash course by the McCain campaign and the pro-America 527s turn this around? I have no idea. But it is critically important that the attempt to do so be made.

Even if unsuccessful, a vital educational function will have been performed: millions of voters will hear critical portions of the truth about Obama, during an extraordinary period when their attention is focused; they will retain what they learn, even if Obama wins. This retention, and more widely dispersed public awareness, may restrain the worst programmatic and personnel decisions of an Obama administration, while at he same time reconstituting and firing up the core of the opposition.

Of course when the story is told, the media and Obama's sycophants will, as one, scream, "racism!" Let them. Welcome it. So far Obama or his campaign surrogates have called Bill and Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party's 1984 Vice-presidential nominee, Geraldine Ferraro, racist. McCain and his campaign surrogates will be in fairly immunizing company, at least on the issue of racism.

Here is a suggested reply when the reflexive "racism" charges are trumpeted: "It seems that Mr. Obama's definition of a racist is anyone who criticizes Mr. Obama's program, political associations or public record. That should give the American people some idea of how Mr. Obama will govern. And it should be a cause for considerable concern."

Whether the Good Old Soldier has the stomach to wage this battle for the next twenty days remains to be seen. The 527's, and other independent groups, should not be in doubt. If the man who asked us to fight with him will not fight, we will have to fight on without him.

Let it not be said by history that Americans picked a President in 2008 whose odious program and deeds could have been foreseen from his public record and close associations, if only the American people had been told.
