Wake up and Smell the Hypocrisy

Pointing out Democrat hypocrisy is like picking the low hanging fruit of contemporary political discussion. They rush at you on a frighteningly regular basis with bushels of the stuff, insisting that you let them put it in your car so you don't even have to get up! However, sometimes spending a moment or two analyzing the why of such is worthwhile for what it reveals behind the all too commonplace.

There was 'Anita Hill = women don't lie about such things' that morphed to talk of trailer parks and $100 dollar bills when the women had names like Jones, Broaddrick and Wiley.

Before Democrat Senate candidate Torricelli left the Senate race late in the game in 2002 due to scandal, his Republican opponent had been expected to get the votes of most of his immediate family and possibly those who owed him money. When Torricelli's poll numbers collapsed and it looked as though the Republican might win, Democrats went to court to have Toricelli's replacement's name placed on the ballot, weeks before the voting.

Now in the Florida 16th where disgraced Republican Congressman Foley's name will appear on the ballot, even though Foley has withdrawn and been replaced by Negron, Democrats are going to court to block the posting of even signs at polling stations letting the voters know that a vote for Democrat Mahoney is actually a vote for Mahoney, while a vote for Foley is actually a vote for Negron! It's the principle of the thing, Democrats using principles the way other folks have used semaphore flags.

In 2000, the Democrats put the nation through thirty or so days of water torture largely based on Democratic voters being confused by a butterfly ballot designed by a Democrat! Almost anything can bring forth the charge from Democrats about confusing voters, even such confusing things as stating that 'You must be a citizen...'. 'Voter education' is a mantra, and the Democrats demand more and more public resources be spent on such things! However, now they are fighting in the courts against measures that might simply remove voter confusion by letting voters know the simple facts.

It's not just the hypocrisy, but what it tells us about how Democrats in the field, as opposed to the Kos/DU Netroots and echo chamber media, see things. The expectation that the Foley scandal will be the final nail in the coffin of Republican election hopes for this season is now Holy Writ among many Democrats. It would bring down Speaker Hastert and the Republican leadership, and give both the House and the Senate to the Democrats, as America realizes which party really epitomizes and upholds moral values, for example, the immediate 'responsibilty to the children' driven investigation of any man rumored or suspected of being homosexual who shows a 'creepy' interest in adolescent males (exactly what many Democrats have historically recommended to the Boy Scouts of America)!

Yet...in the Florida 16th, the Democrats are going to court on the basis that if not enough voters are confused about who they are actually voting for, the Democrats may not even be able to win Foley's old seat.

I vividly remember the Presidential election of 1980. For almost the last three weeks, every reported poll had the race fairly close, but always with Carter four to six points ahead of Reagan. Two days before the balloting, the media began to report a slight but noticable shift to Reagan but said it was still too close to call, and the figures still invariably showed Carter ahead, but within the margin of error of three or so points. Then Reagan won 45 states with a 10% plurality.

If the Democrats in the field, the professionals, are not even sure they can carry Foley's district without counting on 'confused' voters, they may be telling us more about what they think might happen next month than they want to publicly admit.
