Suppression of the Vote

Democrats love to charge that Republicans try to suppress the vote. But apparently there is an attempt going on to suppress the voter turnout this November 7th election day, and it isn't the Republicans doing it. Some people in the media and politics are cynically attempting to dissuade voters from going to the polls by focusing on the Foley scandal or by claiming that the election is already decided using poll numbers.

Neither the 2000 or 2004 elections were decided before hand and that we didn't know the actual results until after Election Day. We all know that people do stupid things and make bad choices, Foley is no different in this regard.  One person's failure in morality or ethics is not a reflection of a group behavior, ethics or morality, because to believe such a thing would suggest that discrimination is an acceptable behavioral response. That ignorant behavior is rejected when applied to black people; that behavior is rejected when applied to Jewish people; and that behavior should be rejected when applied to any other group of people, even Democrats.

When you choose not to vote, you choose to let other people make the decisions for you.  When someone makes the claim that your vote doesn't count or won't make a difference, consider that the person  making the claim has ulterior motives in that they don't want you to vote against their candidate or they want to make all the decisions for you. If you don't vote, you don't have a right to complain, it's as simple as that.  If you don't like the choices being made you have a responsibility to yourself, your family and friends to make your voice heard by voting. It is only those who show up that make the decisions, the rest have to live with the choices they make.

There are many issues that are important this year, as in every year an election occurs. Do you or don't you want people coming into the country when they please, flaunting the rules regardless of the negative effects on society such as crime, financial burden on social services and social security, and depressing wages at the low end of the scale for those of our own poor. Is illegal immigration a civil rights issue or is it sovereignty and financial issue? Only your vote decides on who gets to write laws on the matter.

Do you or don't you want the government to go after terrorists as vigorously as possible?  Do you believe a terrorist has the right to threaten our lives, loved ones and property and then claim to have equal rights under our laws?  Do you think any politician not willing to face the reality of terrorists wanting to kill us should hold office?  Do you believe it is prudent policy for the NSA to monitor calls to foreign countries to known terrorist phone numbers or should they wait to do a post mortem like 911?  Should we cut and run from Iraq knowing that it will only be a matter of time before they, the terrorists will be doing the exact same thing here in the US? You do remember Osama bin Ladin's demand for peace? Convert to Islam or die. Only your vote sends a message over that of special interests and political agendas.

Do you or don't you believe that a nuclear bomb in the hands of North Korea or Iran is something that we should just learn to live with?  Do you believe that the leaders of Iran and North Korea will show the same restraint in the use of the A—bomb as the US?  Do you think it is realistic to negotiate one on one with a party that does not honor its agreements, or do you think by including other parties that a dishonest negotiator knows they are more likely to face sanctions from a unified group? Only your vote sends a message to elected leaders about the priorities they should be concerned.
