Gitmo and the Tortured Democratic Party

Weir thinking about it

There has been much controversy over the treatment of prisoners at Gitmo. Democrats and the liberal media establishment have assailed the Bush Administration for 'condoning abuse' and providing 'an ongoing source of anti—American propaganda.'

However, most of the detainees at the U.S. camp at Guantanamo Bay are dangerous terrorists who would undoubtedly rejoin the global Jihadist fight against America if they had the opportunity. In fact, some of those released have already done so, perhaps resulting in more loss of innocent lives.

Some elected official have proposed that the inmates be treated according to the traditional 'rules' of war. But, these detainees represent a new kind of war for which the old rules of law governing combatants simply don't work. These are not American citizens subject to domestic law; nor are they the kind of uniformed soldiers under the control of governments that the Geneva Convention system was designed to deal with.

And as fighters in a cause eager and willing to target civilian populations, they certainly cannot be treated as mere criminals, either. As for the abuse allegations, US military investigators have found that Guantanamo—based interrogators subjected suspected terrorists to abusive and degrading treatment, forcing some to wear a bra and dance with each other. In one case, a man was forced to walk like a dog as a guard held him by a leash.

Although any form of abuse is deplorable, the complaints cited are a far cry from the decapitations committed against Americans being held by the terrorists. How many American families watched in horror as their loved ones were savagely beheaded by masked degenerates who videotaped the gruesome event? How many of those family members would rather have their sons and daughters embarrassed instead of having their heads sawed off? We need to have a reality check regarding what is and isn't torture?

Speaking of reality check, how about the relentless pursuit of the latest villain in the global war on terror? It appears that the Democrats have, after an exhaustive investigation, discovered the real enemy of the American people.

This man is more dangerous than Osama bin laden and the entire international terrorist network combined. He poses a greater threat to the survival of Western civilization than the Muslim extremists in Iran and Syria who spend all their waking hours plotting the next major attack on our country. Although they have not used the 'H word' yet, it is very likely we will soon hear this man compared to that Nazi with the square mustache. Democrats from coast to coast have concluded that the object of their disdain has been responsible for every casualty in the Iraq War, the bombings in London, every suicidal mass murder committed in the Middle East, and the AIDS crisis in Africa.

Furthermore, although he was only 7 years old at the time, it's been reported that he was seen in Dallas the day JFK was assassinated. As if all of the foregoing was not enough, the most crucial reason for relegating this malevolent scoundrel to the cobwebbed canyons of political obscurity is the fact that he is the Deputy Chief of Staff and architect of President Bush's political career. This, they cannot forgive.

They could forgive him if he were having affairs in the Oval Office with naïve young interns; they could forgive him if he had been accused of violent rape; they could even forgive him if he had lied to a federal grand jury; but helping George W. Bush to defeat their candidates is an offense that has no equivalent.

Consequently, every leftwing, Bush—hating radical, hiding behind the duplicitous mask of concern for America's security and aided by their liberal comrades in the mainstream media, continue to spit and sputter an effusive spray of toxic rhetoric on a public that has little interest in who said what to whom in the never ending saga of 'gotcha' politics. In light of the major issues confronting their constituents, the Dems would rather concentrate on getting rid of Karl Rove, than admit they have no practical solutions to move the country forward.

Instead, they feel the need to prove how long the taste of sour grapes can last as leftover bitterness from 2 defeats by the Bush team, headed by Mr. Rove. Sadly, they are way out of step with the values of the majority. That dilemma is of their own making; depending, of course, on what the meaning of 'is' is
