Weir thinking about it

When California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger said the United States should close the borders in California and throughout the border states with Mexico, he was saying what most Americans are probably thinking. The former Hollywood action hero went on to say, 'I think it is just unfair to have all those people coming across, have the borders open the way it is, and have this kind of lax situation."

Suddenly, for the first time since this illegal immigration issue became a crisis, someone in a high echelon of our government had uttered the strong, common sense words so often absent in this politically correct, formerly secure nation. Alas, it was short—lived, since the governor 'clarified' what he meant after being assailed by some immigrant groups. Among them, Francisco Estrada, the spokesman for the Mexican—American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, said: "That's not what we expected given the fact that the governor himself is an immigrant."

Of course, the answer to Mr. Estrada's paradoxical protest is that Mr. Schwarzenegger did not enter this country illegally. Therefore, all this false indignation is simply another muzzling attempt by those who profit from the very obvious invasion of the US from our southern border. In the lexicon of many liberals, stopping the invasion is comparable to racism and/or discrimination against the poor and downtrodden. The logic being, I suppose, that the only hope of becoming part of the American dream is to begin by violating our laws and exposing us to another cataclysmic terrorist attack.

Currently, we have no defense against the daily swarm that pushes further and further toward the interior sections of the country, weakening our healthcare system and putting an immense strain on the economy. If we were to take this to its logical conclusion, we should open our borders to the entire world, cramming the multitude of humanity into every square foot of territory until we literally stand shoulder to shoulder from sea to shining sea. Perhaps that's the only way to escape being called xenophobic.

It was sad to watch Arnold submissively slink away from his comments and align himself with the surrender mentality that seems to reign supreme in today's elected reps. I can imagine his PR people sitting around the table with him, urging that he make a retraction. 'But, what I said was correct, we should close the borders until we find a way to stop this dangerous invasion,' Arnold may have said. The answer from his advisors probably was: 'Do you want to be correct, or do you want to continue being governor?'

Whatever the scenario was, it resulted in what could only be described as another example of the emasculation of America. If one of the hottest political properties in the country has to back off from a common sense approach to a potentially disastrous calamity facing the nation, what chance does the average person have of speaking his mind?

When did it become an unpardonable sin to stand up for your country? It was when freedom of speech was transmogrified into a tool for those who seek to create a multicultural society in which the term, United, as in States, no longer has meaning.

It's called, divide and conquer, and it's as old as the late great Roman Empire. The balkanization of America is well on its way to becoming a reality, and we'll have no one to blame but ourselves.

The moment we took straight talk off the table and replaced it with the euphemistic language of demagogues and the doctrines of victimology, it became impossible to prevent the steady erosion of the culture, making invasion inevitable. People no longer 'melt' into the 'pot' that gave us a unified language, laws, and customs. Instead, they each demand that their own culture be etched into the landscape, ready to do battle with their host country. If that's not a definition of invasion, I don't know what is.

When President Bush referred to the Minutemen as 'vigilantes' he dealt a blow to those patriotic Americans who care enough about the future of their country to act decisively to defend it. Was Paul Revere a vigilante because he warned the Colonists that the British were coming? The Minutemen are sounding the alarm that Americans have been conditioned to stand idly by and accept the insidious rape of their country.

Arnold caved in to the hackneyed drivel that has stifled dissent on this issue, but by 2008 border security will make Social Security, the economy, and the environment pale by comparison, for without control of our borders all other issues are meaningless. When some bright person discovers that most of us expect the government to provide for the common defense, the majority of Americans will rally around him... or her.
