Limited Sovereignty

By now the politics of Spain are in the hands of terrorists.  The extremist group that claimed credit for the attacks of March 11 today has issued a communiqué in which they declared the suspension of attacks. This follows the electoral victory by PSOE (Socialist Party).  The text of the message is chilling:

"We gave the Spanish people the opportunity to choose between war and peace and they effectively chose peace, voting for the party that is against the alliance with the United States of America in its private war against Islam...The leadership of al Qaeda will suspend further action in Spain until the intentions of the new government are revealed, a new government which has promised the withdrawal of its troops from Iraq, and until such time that it demonstrates that it will not interfere in Muslim affairs."

The communiqué closes with a threat leveled at the other allies and with the promise of attacks on the United States before the November elections.

Whether one considers such a message to be reliable or not, it is clear that for every day from now on this blackmail will on weigh heavily on Spain, and that the first consequence of its surrender to mass murder is the limitation placed on its own sovereignty and on the rights of the Spanish as a people.

That fact that someone was able to even formulate such a message is a dramatic demonstration of the total slaughter of March 11; not only were they able to determine the outcome of a democratic election, but they readied themselves to direct, with terror, the course of events which are internal to our societies.
