Obamacare ready for last rites?
How many more of these exchanges have to fail before Obamacare collapses on its own? The latest two are Connecticut and Oregon!
Obamacare failed because it was rushed without any open discussion or effort to attract Republican support. The "I won" comments may have been good politics, but they doomed the stimulus in 2009 and Obamacare in 2010.
Many on our side believe that Obamacare was created to fail, or the one about the government stepping in with a single-payer plan after thousands are left without coverage. However, I think that idea is going to crash, too, according to Brenda Kirby:
Some critics of the Affordable Care Act have suggested that it was designed to fail to pave the way for what liberals truly want – a completely government-run health care system. Indeed, both the Hillary Clinton campaign and the proposed Democratic Party platform call for moving the health care system in that direction.
But Haislmaier said he believes neither a universal health system nor a full repeal of Obamacare are likely.
"The Left wants to go to strongly to single payer," he said. "They won't get there because they won't be able to sell the tax increases."
That's correct. No U.S. Congress is going to pass the tax increases necessary to bring Obamacare back to life, assuming that it can be revived with fresh dollars.
So what happens?
President Hillary Clinton will be forced to reform it. It will continue to be called Obamacare, but no one will remember it as the act that was designed to give us affordable health care.
President Trump will try to repeal it, but they won't get the 60 votes in the U.S. Senate to kill it. So he may use executive orders to smash it whenever possible.
One way or another, Obamacare is in the E.R., and calling a priest for last rites may be appropriate.
