Study shows that increased atmospheric CO2 is greening the deserts

A funny thing happened on the way to the warmists’ nightmare: the Earth’s deserts have started to turn green.  The Supreme Court, in its infinite wisdom, may have ruled that carbon dioxide is a pollutant, but the Earth’s deserts metaphorically are filing a dissent.  On behalf of all carbon-based life forms  – which would be every living thing on the planet.

Anthony Watts reports at Watt’s Up With That:

Enhanced levels of carbon dioxide are likely cause of global dryland greening, study says

From the “inconvenient truth” department and INDIANA UNIVERSITY:

Enhanced levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide are a likely key driver of global dryland greening, according to a paper published today in the journal Scientific Reports.

The positive trend in vegetation greenness has been observed through satellite images, but the reasons for it had been unclear.

After analyzing 45 studies from eight countries, Lixin Wang, assistant professor of earth sciences in the School of Science at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and a Ph.D. student in Wang’s group, Xuefei Lu, concluded the greening likely stems from the impact of rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide on plant water savings and consequent increases in available soil water.

“We know from satellite observations that vegetation is greener than it was in the past,” Wang said. “We now understand why that’s occurring, but we don’t necessarily know if that’s a good thing or not.”

Of course, it is not only deserts that become more fertile when CO2 increases.  Crop yields have been rising.  Greenhouse operators often pump in CO2 in order to make their plants grow faster.

If radical environmentalists persist in insisting on limiting atmospheric CO2, they will have to drop the “green” label and move on over to “brown.”

The entire global warming scare is based on a deeply inadequate understanding of climate and the Earth’s ecology.  It also assumes that the current balance of factors is ideal, a ridiculous notion on its face, given that the Earth’s climate has always been changing.  Yet because well-connected parties have enriched themselves by pushing this scare, it continues to be official government policy and constantly hyped by media propaganda.  But as an old bumper sticker that the environmentalists used to favor said, “Nature bats last.”

Suck it up, Greenies Brownies.

The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.
