End of gay blood ban brings us closer to AIDS equality

The FDA announced that it was lifting the ban on homosexuals donating blood.  The ban was put in place in 1983 because gays, by an extreme order of magnitude, were tremendously more likely to have AIDS than heterosexuals.  That hasn't changed, but what has changed is that society has become more politically correct.

However, only homosexuals who haven't had gay sex in the past year can give blood.  In other words, only non-practicing gays can donate.

Following up on a preliminary recommendation it made a year ago, the Food and Drug Administration said on Monday that the agency would scrap a decades-old lifetime prohibition on blood donation by gay and bisexual men.

The agency continued to bar men who have had sex with men in the past year, however, saying the measure was needed to keep the blood supply safe.

Gay rights groups considered the lifting of the lifetime ban a major stride toward ending a discriminatory national policy, but had wanted blanket bans for gay men to be removed entirely[.]

Of course!  We must end all discrimination, even if it results in more people being infected with AIDS.  In fact, if more heterosexuals catch AIDS, we will have more AIDS equality.  If it were possible for right-thinking liberals to request a blood transfusion from a gay man, do you think they would, in the spirit of anti-discrimination?

I just have to wonder how many chaste gays there are out there.  Are there really millions of gays who have abstained from sex who want to donate blood?  Or are there gays who, for whatever reason, will lie about their sexual history and risk infecting innocent people with HIV?

With such a small percentage of the population being gay, this is all about political correctness to the point of killing people by spreading AIDS.

And by the way, if you're a "transgendered woman" (a man pretending to be a woman, who is often gay) you can evade these rules entirely by calling yourself a girl.

The new guidelines recommend that the gender of donors "be taken to be self-identified and self-reported." Some experts had raised the possibility that transgendered women would not be covered by a rule change specifically pertaining to men having sex with men.

This is very much like the new edicts requiring people to participate in gay weddings.  Now we are also forced to share in gay body chemistry and share in their risky sexual behaviors.
