Can you guess which candidate for president had 101 events in New Hampshires but is currently zero percent in the polls there, making it very possible he doesn't have a single supporter?

If you guessed former Governor Jim Gilmore of Virginia...you'd be wrong!  Gilmore is at zero percent in the polls but has had only 42 events in New Hampshire.

No, the correct answer is George Pataki.  Doesn't this guy know when to quit?  I think after 50 events and still being at zero in the polls, he'd take a hint, don't you?

But other candidates aren't doing much better.  Rick Santorum has zero percent support, but he's done only 17 events in New Hampshire.  That's the first rational thing I can say about his behavior during this campaign, that he's not wasting time in New Hampshire.

Rand Paul has held 84 events but is only 3.5% in the polls.  Not much return there.

Carly Fiorina has held a whopping 119 events but is only 4.5% in the polls.  Does she expect to get to 9% if she does another 119 events, or does she somehow expect a logarithmic rate of return some point soon?

Ben Carson has held "only" 32 events, which makes sense, because he hasn't gotten much traction there.

John Kasich has held 108 events, which also makes sense, because he is at least making some gains in the polls there (9%).

Jeb! has held 71 events and is at 8%.  That makes sense, too.  If Jeb doesn't do well in New Hampshire, he is done.

Chris Christie has done the most, 131 events, which makes sense since he's tied for third place in the polls with Ted Cruz (11%), and New Hampshire is the friendliest early state he can expect to find.

Ted Cruz has done "only" 39 events, which makes sense, as he should be focusing his efforts on more fertile ground in Iowa (where he is leading) and South Carolina, where he has more potential.

Marco Rubio has done "only" 44 events in New Hampshire.  He should be doing much, much more because he has little chance in Iowa, and his campaign has been branded weak and lazy.

GOP activists in New Hampshire are grumbling that Rubio has fewer staff members and endorsements than most of his main rivals and has made fewer campaign appearances in the state, where voters are accustomed to face-to-face contact with presidential contenders.

And Donald Trump has only had 26 events.  But of course, he is leading in the polls there, and his events are well attended.

The irony is that New Hampshire matters only for Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, and Marco Rubio.  Ted Cruz is hunting for his trophy in Iowa.  None of the other candidates has a national organization with which to capitalize on a victory in New Hampshire.  Trump needs a victory there, especially if he loses Iowa.  Jeb and Marco need a victory there to have a victory anywhere.

But it's curious how some candidates waste so much time there when they obviously have no chance, and other candidates who should be focusing even more on New Hampshire seem to find better things to do with their time.
