ISIS: Obama's peril
(See also: ISIS: Obama’s Opportunity)
President Obama has placed his presidency in great peril through his brash, arrogant and condescending comment several months ago that ISIS is a “JV” team that may be donning Lakers jerseys, but is not in Kobe Bryant’s league. If, God forbid, ISIS should prove able to carry out a major terror attack on US soil, (as serious observers and the FBI and DHS fear), this comment will put the blame squarely on him. It will encapsulate his foreign policy weakness and hubris, his failure to take adequate steps to carry out his most important responsibility as President of the United States.
The American public forgave President Bush for 911 and rallied to his cause because nobody had dreamed of the possibility of such an attack on our homeland. But we have been on notice for 13 years that jihadists really mean it when they promise to destroy us, and that they regard our suffering as just and pleasing to their god, Allah. That they are happy to die in the cause of making us wither and submit.
So there is no excuse for a president not taking them seriously. For obsessively playing golf and yucking it up with his rich pals on Martha’s Vineyard.
One of the least attractive aspects of President Obama’s persona is his contempt and condescension toward those whom he regards as his enemies. His arrogance and hubris are well known (“I have a gift”), and should his failure to take ISIS seriously have dire consequences for civilians at home, He will become the object of blame.
The border permeability that has led to tens of thousands of children flooding into the United States is also on Obama’s shoulders. We are clearly in peril, and he has made our border guardians into diaper-changers.
I have never seen a president put himself in comparable political and strategic peril. I pray that President Obama does the right thing, for I would rather see him and the Democrats benefit politically than see an American city suffer another 911.
