Dixville Notch midnight vote a straw in the wind?

In 2008, President Obama won the first in the nation, midnight vote in the tiny New Hampshire enclave of Dixville Notch 15-6. This year, enthusiasm for the president appeared to be lacking: By tradition, the unincorporated village of Dixville Notch, N.H., located in Coos County, is one of two locations that get to cast the first votes of the presidential election just after midnight on Election Day. The other location, also in New Hampshire, is Hart's Location. This year, Dixville Notch residents cast their votes in a tie: five votes each for President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. It was the first time in Dixville Notch's history that a tie was recorded. Voting participation down more than 50% and Obama's total 1/3 of what it was 4 years ago. I think I'll wait for a slightly higher sample of the electorate before drawing any real conclusions...but it's interesting, isn't it? (Read Full Post)
