The Media Cofferdam Around Obama's Biography is Leaking
The real significance of the Breitbart revelation that Obama's literary agency promoted him as a Kenya-born author in 1991 is that it demonstrates that up-and-comer Barack Obama was going around until at least 2004 claiming Kenyan birth as a way to make his biography more exotic and appealing. There is no plausible explanation of how the literary agency came to believe Obama was born in Kenya, other than that Obama told that to his agency. They could not make a mistake "fact checking" without an initial fact to check. Only Obama could have supplied such information.
Mainstream media bigwigs write books, have literary agents, and are very familiar with the process by which promotional materials are put together. They know Obama gave his agent this information. The point isn't that Obama was born in Kenya, the point is that he made up stuff about his background and peddled the lie for career advantage. Just like Elizabeth Warren.
How long will it take for the mainstream Media to discuss the literary agency claim of Obama Kenya birth? My best guess is three days, mostly based on the time it took for the image of his bow to the Saudi King to travel from a few sites like American Thinker to a topic of national discussion, and an entry into the collective memory bank.
ABC News has a piece this morning on its website. Tick tock, tick tock. They will be watching the number of hits this gets.
Barack Obama is the first president to enjoy widespread immunity from media scrutiny of his bona fides. In effect, the media have erected a cofferdam around Barack Obama's fabricated biography, preventing critical inquiry into lies and distortions about his life from entering the mainstream of American discourse, and it has held strong for over four years.
Obvious danger signs such as his mentoring by a communist pedophile, Frank Marshall Davis, his close relationship with Ayers and Dohrn, the ghost writing of his first autobiography, his performance as chairman of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (his sole claim to executive experience), and many other instances of resume padding.
Critics who doubt the truthfulness of his assertions about his background are immediately accused of racism. The most dramatic instance is the deployment of the term "birther" to characterize inquiry into the anomalies of the campaign-promulgated story of his birth, such as identifying two different Honolulu hospitals as its location, and providing an electronic image of the purported long form birth certificate that has been shown to be a fraud. This taboo was so powerful it was adopted by many of the most prominent conservative commentators and publications.
The American people are in the process of re-evaluating Barack Obama in preparation for November. The image sold to them in 2008 was a phony, and most of them realize it. If the mainstream media think they can keep the cofferdam intact, they are mistaken. After Drudge featured it, the game was lost. Talk radio is full of this story today, and that means a critical mass of Americans are informed and want to talk about this.
