The Best of Dirty Dick Durbin

Illinois wasn't always the epicenter of political corruption and incompetence in America.  Let us not forget that Illinois is the Land of Lincoln and the birthplace of Ronald Reagan.  Of course that was long before Saul Alinsky, Hillary Rodham, Carol Mosley-Braun, Rod Blagojevich, Pat Quinn, Richard Daley, Barack Obama and Dick Durbin (to name just a few) turned our state into the laughing stock of America.

Recently The Bank of America (BOA) announced that it would be charging customers a monthly $5.00 debit card fee to off-set loses in revenue stemming from the "Durbin Amendment" to the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill.  Dick Durbin the senior U.S. Senator from Illinois took to the senate floor to attack BOA for daring to re-coop some of the loses that will be incurred by his ill-conceived and ill-considered amendment.  Dirty Dick called upon BOA customers to exact revenge by closing their accounts and taking their business elsewhere.

For some elected officials this sort of behavior would come as a shock to their constituents and imperil their chances for reelection, but in the People's Republic of Illinois this is just another ho-hum, nothing to see here folks moment.  This latest episode of the Dirty Dick Show is actually pretty tame for the senior senator and Democrat Party Whip, far from his most embarrassing moments.  Here are just a few low-lights from Durbin's senate career.

My personal nominee for The Best (worst) of Dirty Dick Durbin is the now classic attack on our military as the deranged senator calmly compared our men and women in uniform to Nazis, Soviets or members of the notorious Pol Pot regime.

A close second for The Best of Dirty Dick Durbin occurred back in August when Washington Times reporter Bill Kelly tried to ask the surly senator whether he should shoulder any blame or take any responsibility for the U.S. credit downgrade.  What happened next is the Chicago Way at it's most prime.

Who could forget Dirty Dick's impassioned fight against the Iraqi troop surge?   The senior senator from Illinois certainly has a knack for detailed military planning.

In order to be fair, Dirty Dick hasn't always been wrong.  During the 2008 election Senator Durbin told reporters that Barack Obama the one candidate that would support organized labor.  Of course experience has taught us that when Dirty Dick is right we should all be worried.

Don't worry Dick, the 2014 election is more than three years away, the people of Illinois have short memories and you can count on the voters of Chicago (the living and the dead) to keep you in office and maintain the state's reputation for corruption and ineptitude.
