Obama goes for ice cream while people bleed for freedom in Iran
No doubt the left will label this another "distraction by the right wing noise machine."
Of course, when they criticized Bush for going on vacation during Katrina or some other nonsense, it was legitimate criticism.
No matter, the signal sent by President Obama when he went out for some ice cream was not one of concern for the demonstrators in Iran. Patrick Frey of Patterico has a devastating contrast between tweets from Iranins getting tear gassed and shot at and CBS White House correspondent Mike Knoller tweets about Obama's trip to an ice cream shop in Alexandria, VA.
Tom Blumer at Newsbusters headlines his piece "Tone Deaf:"
As Hot Air's Ed Morrissey's Hot Air has pointed out at his running commentary, this fawning would be a bit more palatable if leftist commentators and comedians hadn't gasped at and ridiculed George W. Bush hitting a golf shot after commenting about the Middle East and the War on Terror. Do you think Jon Stewart, who thought the golf shot vid was so funny, will find "humor" in the Obamas' ice cream outing?
Meanwhile, Morrissey notes "The latest unverified/rumored death toll is 150. In other news, Obama ordered a small cup of vanilla"
Obama - like Bush - was trying to impart a sense of normalcy despite the crisis. This is what president's are expected to do - unless your name is Bush and you are a Republican.
But as long as the left refused to grant that kind of legitimacy to Bush's actions, I see no reason not to return the favor.
