At the outset of Steven Spielberg’s 2005 remake of H. G. Well’s science fiction classic, The War of the Worlds, Dakota Fanning’s character explains to her dad how there is no need to pull the splinter out of her finger -- “When it’s ready, my body will just push it out.” This foreshadows the means through which humanity will be saved from the invading Martians who begin obliterating the human race just a few moments after cute little Dakota’s prescient statement.

The Martians end up succumbing to biological attack launched not by the militaries of Earth, but by the Earth itself. Biological agents which are harmless to the human race because of natural immunities built up over the course of man’s existence on our planet, prove to be deadly to the aliens. After wreaking havoc on our society, the aliens suddenly, inexplicably, up and croak.

As it turns out, this also is an apt literary device for understanding what is happening now across the American political landscape.

During the past few years, we have seen the early stages of the Wellsian undoing of Washington’s political establishment. It is not microbes causing their ouster. However, it is something just as ubiquitous -- something benign and benevolent to Main Street Americans -- to the country class -- to what Hillary Clinton describes as the “Deplorable” class -- while at the same time representing a grave existential threat to the political class and all those who seek to engineer changing the nature -- the DNA -- of America and her people. That “something” is the human dignity of American exceptionalism.

Neither human dignity in general nor American exceptionalism in particular can tolerate or coexist with legislation and leadership antithetical to the nature of America and her founding and trajectory. Like Dakota’s body detecting the presence of a splinter and, in its own time, naturally expelling the foreign presence, so too is America naturally rejecting the presence in Washington of ideologies foreign to her very soul. They are polar opposites that don’t attract or conjoin or assimilate: They repel.

It’s not simply the ideology of the left that is being rejected; it is Washington’s entire political establishment, which has been so amenable to the advancement of crony capitalism and expansion of big government. The overreaching, over-controlling Leviathan that Washington has become is being brought down by a simple belief held by all country class members but viewed as banal by the political elites -- American exceptionalism’s respect for human dignity.

The ruling Democrat/Republican, Liberal/conservative, New York/Washington duopoly that has stood in judgment of America’s “Deplorables” faces rejection as its control diminishes.

The growing locus of the new American political establishment is not Washington: it is Main Street USA.’  It is the country class and it is pure grass roots, as it should be.

Black & White TV

As it turns out, everything needed to understand what is happening in our country today could be learned decades ago watching black and white Saturday afternoon science-fiction TV movies. Seriously. These movies were far more educational than anything that public funded PBS has ever produced.  

Invasion of the Body Snatchers:  Actually Happening

In 2013, the president turned United States Park Service employees into a beta test for his civilian national security force. In fact, Obama has co-opted several government agencies over the years to suppress those whom his administration has perceived as enemies.

Federal Workers essentially became the president’s private army: When the National Parks and Monuments were shut down as a result of sequestration, friendly, helpful, smiling park rangers overnight became unrecognizable, inhuman entities. They were no longer themselves.

​ “Relax. Don’t mind the pods. Go to sleep. You’ll see things differently in the morning.”

Uniformed Park Service guards intimidated and bullied senior citizens at Yellowstone Park, ostensibly holding them hostage until they could be escorted off National Park property.  A tour guide described the actions of the Park Service employees as "Gestapo tactics."

Washington, D.C.'s open-air war memorials on the National Mall were shut down and walled off by the Park Service to prevent WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam Vets in their sixties to nineties, often in wheelchairs, from paying homage to their fallen comrades. 

And when private citizens, aghast at the inhumane treatment of our aging veterans, pitched in to provide porta-potties for the vets because the Park Service had chosen to lock the public restrooms, denying access to this most basic human need to our Vets, the delivery of those porta-potties was denied. Human dignity be damned.  Care and compassion be damned.  Let elderly vets soil themselves.

Don's Johns delivered Port-A-John's to the World War II Memorial.  National Park Service Rangers refused to allow the delivery. 

This is what was most disturbing:  We ‘ve witnessed a test to see if U.S. civil servants are willing to suppress their consciences and falsify their beliefs in order to continue to "fit in" at work. After all, IRS, EPA, Homeland Security, and U.S. Park Service employees can, like Adolf Eichmann, reassure themselves, saying, "I'm only doing my job." 

More recently, IRS employees were used to hassle and suppress patriotic conservative groups. The department of Justice, the FBI, and the State Department no longer serve the American people and instead exist to maintain an invisible protective force field around just one person, Hillary Rodham Clinton, who, like Barack Hussein Obama who disdains those “who cling to their Bibles,” clearly “deplores” normal Americans.

The warning to the American people is “Whatever you do, don’t allow yourself or your family to fall asleep. Don't allow your neighbors to fall asleep. If they fall asleep, your loved ones may no longer be your loved ones and your countrymen may no longer be your countrymen. They might become anti-American Americans. They will become soulless strangers.”

The Incredible Shrinking Man: Actually Happening

Six-foot one-inch Scott Carey passed through a radioactive cloud and later was exposed to a powerful insecticide. The chemical reaction caused by the interaction of these two agents then caused Carey to begin to shrink.

A man who once was lord of his castle and master of his domain is reduced to the size of a little boy, and then a Ken doll, and finally he becomes so small that no one can see him.  He goes from being a proud independent American male providing for his family, to a man of continually decreasing stature, unable to go to work, drive a car or even open a refrigerator door. He then shrinks to the size of a little toddler, depending on his wife to supply all his needs. As he continues to shrink he is no longer able to live comfortably in his own house and instead endures the humiliation of being forced to live in a doll’s house. Suddenly he is all alone in a strange monstrous world, despite the fact he is still in his own home. He fights to stay alive, surrounded by once familiar things that are now threatening and dangerous (e.g., the family cat who towers over him). He then approaches microscopic size, as if his life were trivial, valueless.

The rest of the world, including his wife, goes on without him.

In many ways, this is a metaphor for the personal experience of men of all colors in America’s heartland, along with the black men in America’s inner cities. They face diminishing stature in life, unattractiveness as potential spouses, the shrinking of their ability to provide for their families, and a truncating, if not obliteration, of hope and confidence in the future. Instead they see an alien urban, celebrity, academic, and crony capitalist culture deride them as “Deplorables” while illegal aliens are imported to supplant their lives. Like the shrinking man in the movie, their lives, hopes and aspirations are shrinking at an accelerating pace.

The Obama Administration sought to inflict ‘maximum pain’ on Americans, especially vets, in order to win the sequestration debate.

A prime, very important example of this is the government’s treatment of our veterans. Vets and active military have been the focus of the administration's contempt, suffering one indignity after another.

When peaceful protesting vets descended on Washington DC for a rally in October, 2013, unlike illegal aliens, they were treated like invading, marauding hordes by riot police.

The Veterans Administration seems to exist for its bureaucracy’s preservation, rather than for the interests of the vets they are pledged to serve. God bless our Vets and Active Military:

Earth Versus the Flying Saucers:  Actually Happening

Our culture is over run by aliens -- of both the illegal and ideological sort -- who overwhelm the goodwill of the American People. They seek to alter our American DNA.  The result of their infiltration is a total breakdown of the Federal government. 1956’s Earth Versus the Flying Saucers predicted the outcome of their unchecked invasion:

Fundamental alien transformation began with the 2009 taking of the White House... and continued with little resistance from Congress...

The United States Supreme Court, under the spell of alien thought control, forced Americans to submit to the strange notion that two men or two women can form a marriage. Now men no longer think they are men and women no longer think they are women. Truth has become stranger than science fiction. Seriously.

​The attacks and undermining continue on many fronts and in many ways: Black Lives Matter accuses and attacks Police men and women all across the country as “racists.” Illegal aliens accuse and attack normal Americans as “racists” and “xenophobes.” LGBT’s accuse and attack all Americans as homophobic haters because they rightly can’t bring themselves to call two men a “married couple” or call someone like Bruce Jenner a “woman.” The IRS targets conservative groups while the EPA continues to choke the life out of the coal industry.                

Evidence of the alien invasion is everywhere if you just open your eyes.

The War of the Worlds:  Actually Happening

Our cities are being destroyed by decades of liberal governance that places ideology and the maintenance of existing political power structures over the wellbeing of people.

Who cares if much of Detroit is now a barren wasteland? Who cares if blacks kill blacks by the hundreds every year in Chicago? Who cares if inner city children get substandard educations? What is important is that liberal Democrats and the public service unions they are beholden to remain in power.

Who cares about Religious liberty? Who cares if the Little Sisters of the Poor are strongarmed by the federal government to pay for contraceptives and abortifacients? Who cares if religious schools and churches are forced to allow members of the opposite sex to invade the privacy of restrooms and locker rooms? Who cares if Christian bakers, florists, and photographers are made to knuckle under to serve sham weddings which dishonor the true, immutable meaning of marriage? Who cares if athletes are punished if they bend a knee or bow their head to pray on the playing field but are applauded is they take a knee to dishonor our National Anthem? 

You and I both know who cares: The Deplorables.

The Rise of the Deplorables

When is enough enough? How long can alien ideologies infiltrating our land, antithetical to America’s founding, to the exceptional culture America has produced, and to human dignity itself be permitted free rein to wreak havoc? 

Malcolm Muggeridge famously observed:

. . . other civilizations have been brought down by attacks of barbarians from without, ours had the unique distinction of training its own destroyers at its own educational institutions, and then providing them with facilities for propagating their destructive ideology far and wide, all at the public expense. Thus did Western Man decide to abolish himself, creating his own boredom out of his own affluence, his own vulnerability out of his own strength, his own impotence out of his own erotomania, himself blowing the trumpet that brought the walls of his own city tumbling down, and having convinced himself that he was too numerous, labored with pill and scalpel and syringe to make himself fewer. Until at last, having educated himself into imbecility, and polluted and drugged himself into stupefaction, he keeled over -- a weary, battered old brontosaurus -- and became extinct.

We are not ready for extinction, especially via cultural suicide.

In June, 2010, Dorothy Rabinowitz opined about our then new president in the pages of the Wall Street Journal: 

A great part of America now understands that this president’s sense of identification lies elsewhere and is in profound ways unlike theirs.  He is hard put to sound convincingly like the leader of the nation, because he is, at heart and by instinct, the voice mainly of his ideological class.  He is the alien in the White House.

We must avoid four more years of alien rule at all costs.

Pray that Donald Trump wins. Grassroots America could really use a strong ally like Mr. Trump in the White House. Explain to your neighbors and coworkers why he must be elected. Then pray that we can survive until January 20, 2017, our Independence Day.
